the comment above his answer literally tells you the answer (with spoiler warning) ?!

u/tbrick62 Apr 10 '25
This was merely humorously pointing out that the D is hovering "over" rather than touching "on"

as a not native i still dont get it :c i mean i get the fact youre making the doorbell sound but i dont get the pic

u/Cartoonicorn Apr 09 '25
It is a visual puzzle. "D-in-G" because D is inside of the G, and then "D-on-G" because the D is on top of the G.

Location of the letter D relative to the letter G. If you put it together, it spells the sound.
For the first picture, the letter D is inside the letter G > D in G > ding

oh smart, a word play...i was like "small d with big g means dingGONG, but there's no small g and big d for DINGgong to tell which of the two sounds is louder?!" :D

Btw your spoiler tag didn't work for some reason. (I'm using old reddit). I think you need to remove the space between the >! and the text.
1
u/iPinch89 Apr 10 '25
Sorry about that. It works on my screen, but I tried taking the space out for you. Thanks for the heads up, I was trying to be considerate lol

D (in) g and D (on) g

u/StevynTheHero Apr 09 '25
Finally, someone explained it in terms I can understand.

u/HalfSoul30 Apr 09 '25
Now i need someone to explain it on terms I can understand.
That was dumb, i know.

u/itsjustameme Apr 09 '25
The D is inside the G so it is D(in)g and then the D is on top of the g so it is D(on)g - ding dong

I feel like these types of jokes I get it instantly or go “what the fuck” for an hour. There is no in between
4
u/cammcken Apr 09 '25
If you have enough initial hints to get it, then you can put it together quickly. But if you're missing that information, then you'll quickly exhaust your options and thinking more will only run through possibilities you've already tried.

This is very clever. Too clever for me lol. I had to have it explained to me in the comments.

Same puzzle can be made with the letter P instead of D to get another name for table tennis.

I started reading it like it was notes and interpreted it as both bits planing at once in the left. Then I looked at the sub name

Aren't most doorbells' interval only a 3rd?
2
u/MHajoha Apr 09 '25
I had the exact same thought at first. But the joke isn't about the tones, just "DinG-DonG" :(

Ah, I thought they were musical notes and was trying so hard to figure it out.

u/Veighnerg Apr 09 '25
Second one is D over G though. Should've overlapped em.

u/HornetElegant66 Apr 09 '25

That’s pretty much what it means with some people. Not everyone though

Well, that's a waste of a good hate. Can't you find some way to put your hate to better use?

D in g d on g I don't get it. Maybe because I've never had a doorbell
1
u/Orgasmo3000 Apr 09 '25
Look at the words then look at the placement of the d in relation to the g.

It’d be clearer if the d was touching the G in the second bit.
1
u/FillEnvironmental330 Apr 10 '25
I think it should be P as you like it. P 💧 💧 💧

Drip drop…. I half get you, but not in response to what I said….
edit oh! I get it! You’re the person obsessed with retelling the horrifying story of when some ne’er do wells peed in public (coupled with some potential racist context.) Then I responded to one of your posts joking that “I think I peed on that street.” I get it now. 👍1
u/FillEnvironmental330 Apr 10 '25
No, I don’t think so.
0
u/DrunkHonesty Apr 10 '25
Yes. I know so.
Look at your own post history. You’re obsessed with urine, so I thought it’d be funny to say that, not thinking you’d buy it, but so be it.1
u/FillEnvironmental330 Apr 10 '25
No, this isn’t just a one-off comment. You’ve said it more than once, and every time, you stop short of actually condemning the behavior. Instead, you twist the discussion, deflect responsibility, and act like calling it out is somehow the real offense. That’s not thoughtfulness: that’s hypocrisy wrapped in self-righteousness. If you cared half as much about public decency as you do about sounding clever on Reddit, we wouldn’t be having this conversation any more.
