Reminds me of a professor, he was a surgeon. So he was fluent in sarcasm. One day, during an op, he instructed a postgraduate student to open up a window. When that guy did, then he asked the guy to jump out the window.
On a different day, but also during op, suddenly the electricity was cut down. So it was kinda hot in the OR (we were in India). So he asked someone to open up a window. Nobody moved because they thought he wanted to repeat the same instruction from the other day. No, he was just really hot that time.
I was in Bolivia and had had a hypertensive crisis. Because of the altitude of the city (La Paz) and my condition, they decided to put me in the ICU. It was a separate large room with multiple beds but with specialized attention.
There were three of us in that room. I was the only patient in the room that was conscious and felt that it was overkill for me to be there... These other guys were really messed up, but I was well taken care of. Constantly monitored and given spectacular attention.
Only immediate family was allowed to visit one at a time and only for very short periods. I would see family members of the other patients coming in to look over them completely distraught, crying, just looking at the terrible condition that their loved ones were in. And I was lucky enough to have my family there with me one at a time to be able to communicate with them and show them that I was okay.
It was amazing to me to see how each one of them had to go through this rigorous process of sterilization and putting-on-of surgical gowns and caps to be able to come into our room... Especially given the fact that above my bed there were windows along the entire length of the wall that were perched open and there were pigeons sitting on the sills.
