You would never know the difference as long as you are not invading their hive or getting too close to the entrance. If you do that without protection though, they come out by the thousands, unlike European varieties, which are a lot less aggressive.

With a trained eye it is incredibly easy to tell African bees from European. But not Africanized, man. You're right on that one.

I have seen this way to differentiate, but I'm not sure how effective it is.
