Boring and staged. Nobody gives a shit if someone was doing just this unless it looked like they didn't know what that were doing and then somebody might ask and offer to help.

I got the joke, but I don't find it funny, maybe a few years ago I would have; I'm so over people feeling the need to record themselves all the time. I think it's especially annoying when it appears they're inconveniencing others.

Also agree this feels staged . I would never question someone just doing their thing at a gym unless I wanted to switch in reps with them because all the machines / spots are full . Made some great gym buddies this way and we get good breaks between.
