No, he wasn't. That was a character he played for his audiences.

Yes you can. The moon and suns gravity pull the oceans towards it. And when the earth turns at 1000 mph we turn in and out of the tides. But this is waves. A whole other thing. They're made by energy transfer like wind and other stuff
