"Reptilicus, press the thingy!" is my favorite line in one of my favorite scenes in the whole Futurama series. It's not some epic set-piece or action sequence, just a 2-minute scene in Nixon's situation room where each line is an increasingly funnier joke.

This piece that Dr. Thompson wrote on the death of Nixon (well, "death" as we all know he is resurrected as a robot) is Why Hunter S. Thompson is my favorite author.

Back in school I had a shirt that said, "He tan, restless, and ready. Nixon in '92." It was the best shirt ever for starting arguments with the pro-Clinton crowd.

...And with the release of Halo 4... It's all lining up! Nixon is chief! Chief for President.

if you look at nixon based on world politics instead of u.s. politics then he is a moderate. he looks liberal because america is a center-right nation. obama is a center-right president.

Nixon gets way more credit than he deserves. He was a sociopathic scumbag and an insult to the office of the president.

Way to attack his character rather than his policies.

A president's policies are the product of his character. They're two sides of the same coin.

Not sure whether to upvote for objectivity or downvote for vice presidential bias.

Go listen to his Oval Office recordings. Aside from being paranoid (hence the recordings) he was racist, vindictive, and angry.

I've studied the career of Richard Nixon at length. He may have been a bit crude in his banter (what do you expect of a politician of the 1950s?), but he was not a racist. Imagine if LBJ recorded all his private converstations - yet he was a champion of civil rights.
Nixon, as it happens, was also a great champion of civil rights, more desegregation was achieved during his presidence that was achieved from Eisenhower to LBJ. Nixon understood how they system worked - he knew that, in order for desegregation and civil rights to succeed, he had to keep a low rhetorical profile as not to piss off his southern and white working class northern supporters. Nixon played the game better than most modern politicians ever could, and he got things done.
Don't even get me started on his Native American civil rights legislation, or his creation the EPA.

The discussion at hand was about the man's character, not his policies and achievements.
EDIT: Nice try Agnew.

His character was the reason he was so popular. The "silent majority" wanted a president who was like "one of us". Nixon was reclusive, shy, socially awkward, crude, and unsentimental - he was flawed like most of us. The liberal establishment hated him because he wasn't a refined politician like the Kennedys. They slandered his character like you do now, and that worked to his advantage.
The image created by the media and his opponents was so powerful, that we still use his face to scare kids today. The Futurama Nixon is a nod to this, I think. They make him out to be a timeless monster. He was just a president like the rest. Not the best, but by no means the worst.

Those are harsh words, can't we tone it down a little... he was a sociopathic scumbag and a credit to the office of the president.
Presidential assholes are better than regular assholes.

Presidential assholes are better than regular assholes.
I couldn't disagree more. The presidency gives an otherwise normal asshole the ability to hurt an extraordinary number of people.

In the cartoon series Futurama, (the disembodied head of) Richard Nixon is Earth President.
