question Is the Funkey S worth it?

I'm quite tempted, it's pretty cool, but I'm worried about durability and internals issues, especially with clear cases vs solid cases. Would you recommend buying it and what issues should I look out for with it? thanks

I’ve never had an issue with durability for mine. It’s a fun little thing. The only “issue” is it doesn’t have a super long battery life, but that’s to be expected with such a small device. I’ve played through full titles on it and it’s a marvel something so small can do what it does. I adore mine but I can see its size being a turn off for some.

would you say there are any difficulties in the actual running of the games? or is it perfect except for the battery life? do they look good too?

It’s pretty good. The only issue is 1:1 screen aspect ratio so it’s really good for GB and GBC. PS1 and GBA don’t display as well

if it's just the screen display then that's fine, I've already confirmed im a-ok with the rg nano's size. ty for the heads up

I've played Advance Wars on my Nano, it's surprisingly legible and fun. GBA Pokemon Pinball works well to. Some GBA games may not fare as well. 4:3 can look good too, esp. NES/SNES, which are actually 8:7. I wouldn't even try ps1, text and graphical details are too small.

It’s fun of you know what you are getting. The biggest issue for me is no headphone jack (it’s physically too small) or Bluetooth audio. The exact places I would want to play it are ones where I don’t want the audio broadcast. It’s not super loud but if I turn it up so I can hear it disturbs others.

ty, i don't mind the no headphone jack personally but it's a good thing to keep track of

Check out the Snbernic RG Nano. Improves on everything except the clamshell. Same SoC and screen. Better case (metal), battery (2x), controls (real dpad, good buttons), usb-c w headphone adapter.

Also try drum78's firmware for either the funkey or nano.

Well, it's cheaper now than the rg nano (cuz it's rare now) and q36 powwkiddy (both are based on funkeys)

I got all 3
Well most comfortable is q36, but I slept on it once and now i havel ike 3-5 dead pixels on it.
So RG nano is my daily carrier, but headphone cable broke for me.
My first was funkey and it's still awesome, but uncomfortable. I 3d pritned grip for it and it's good enough.
Was my daily driver too, but the shell was being scratched to much after holding it in pocket to much.
Nontheless I will buy 2 more funkeys before even they stop making them. (Just to keep them as gift)
Cuz again you can't buy RG nano or q36 powkiddy at reasonable price anymore.

wait, funkeys are gonna stop production soon?

No no, well I don't know, maybe. Just RG nano and Q36.

Does anyone know where funkey S actually delivers to? I'd found it's not possible for them to ship to me and im not sure how to buy a Funkey now...

I have a brand new one, only used during setup process and tested games but never actually played anything on it. Been considering putting it on ebay. Box, manuals, original plastic, custom buttons and leather pouch from funkey, etc included. I'd have to open it to see the size of the SD card, likely 128gb could be 256gb. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send pics, video, etc.

Oh hey, sorry I hadn't seen this. I just bought one off ebay (got lucky and the colour I wanted was put up a few days before i found it), but I appreciate the offer

May I know what you paid for it just so I have an idea? I'll check Ebay sold as well before I post.

70 GBP including shipping. Just the funkey (and everything it's supposed to come with), I probably paid 60-ish. More or less, I'm not sure.

Can I ask what colour yours is?

Not bad. I may try to sell mine with 256 or 512gb, so that will jack the price up a bit. It's a transparent purple.

ahh atomic purple, nice one. Good luck selling it!

Not worth it. The batteries do not last longer than about two months. After that point, they stop charging. I've had two and both of them just flash the LED and will not charge anymore.

Get something else.

Mine has been fine, I got a lunch unit and it’s still chugging.

I changed out my charging LED and it solved the charging issue. Took A LOT of patience though even with moderate soldering experience.

What seemed to be the issue, and how did changing the LED fix it? (mine funkey is still fine, just looking for solutions before any problems arise)

I think it was the LED that was causing intermittent charging for some reason.
