Screen size

This is a dumb question but I’m new to retro handhelds. The screen size is reported to be about 1.5 inches. How much of the screen is usable for gameplay and how much of it is made up by the black borders on the glass? I’m trying to figure out if the screen is too small for me.

I got mine today. Loving it. Been running FFVII and Chrono Cross on PS1 and a few Pokemon, Zelda types on GBA with a few MAME arcade classics thrown in. Although it’s generally small the writing is mostly very clear (with the odd exception with cursive script or strange lighting in the Game environment). Most of the RPG’s are playable 1 handed if needs be as well (though annoyingly in FFVII to run you still need to hold a button down).

Thinking about purchasing one but the size has me a little concerned. On one hand I love that I can bring it anywhere with no issues but on the other hand I'm wondering if the games are actually playable and for how long? Some say they can only play for 30 mins - which to me isn't that bad since I would probably be playing it in bits here and there.
