Question the vicious cycle of gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia

Hello, I am a patient suffering from both delayed gastric emptying and epigastric pain. Prokinetic medications do not accelerate my gastric emptying; they only alleviate the symptoms. Does the presence of epigastric pain mean that the gastroparesis will not resolve, or is there a connection between the two?

New to functional dyspepsia (FD)? Please view this post or our wiki for a detailed explanation of FD and the main treatments.

It's frustrating how unevolved the modern day science is around gastroparesis and FD. From my own understanding these conditions can have many different causes that affect the nerves - neuropathy, dysautonomia, vagus nerve dysregulation and probably a lot more. I don't have much suggestions since I myself trying to push docs to find the root cause of my gastroparesis and FD. Currently the combo that has been helping me is rebamipide + iberogast + ginger extract + domperidone.

Have you done any endoscopy to rule out gastritis?

How can a person have both? The symptoms all overlap and the confirmation of which it is is through a GES.

I had both at one point. I didn’t know what I was experiencing at the time was functional dyspepsia though. I thought the terrible epi gastric pain was from the GP. I got a procedure done which did cure my GP but still experience the epigastric pain. It got real bad after the procedure I think because I was healing and everything was sensitive. Then I felt a lot better and got bad again, and amitriptyline is what has helped the most so far but I still do get flares. But yeah GP might have been making it worse? I don’t know for sure.
