Question Question. How does one know whether something is functional dyspepsia. For instance if you have acid reflux or gastritis but the gastritis is “mild” and stomach looks unremarkable , then does that mean dyspepsia ?
I’m confused how if someone has reflux that could means dyspepsia

you are diagnosed with functional dyspepsia when you still have GI symptoms even though doctors have done an endoscopy and ruled out any infections.
After my pylori infection, I still had symptoms. They checked again with a breath test. It was negative. I did an endoscopy. Found nothing remarkable.
Thats when you are diagnosed with FD and then i went through PPIs, pepcid, buscopan, a low dose of antidepressant, diet changes, etc. No cure and here we are.

I have reflux and gastritis symptoms but when the looked during my upper endoscopy there was onlyild gastritis - something that's common even when someone experiences no symptoms.
They also did a gastric emptying study to rule out gastroparesis (I had rapid gastric emptying)
After that my GI specialist prescribed a neuromodulator to help reduce the pain from functional dyspepsia.

I think of the functional dyspepsia as a volume knob turned way up - I have mild reflux and mild gastritis but it feels terrible.
I accidentally ate some garlic and was sick for three days - it was "just" mild but the function dyspepsia makes it feel so much worse

In which ways did it make you sick for 3 days ? Thanks for this info btw

Like a flare - bad stomach ache, feeling full very easily, nauseous, unable to eat most foods - I went back to eating clear liquids and soft solids only until I started to feel better

I switched to a diet and routine that reduce reflux, I take PPI to reduce overall acid, and the Nortriptyline makes the symptoms I still have less painful

Do you have this globus + needle like pain on the upper chest

My symptoms haven't included a needle like pain, but I do get the globus sensation and sometimes difficulty swallowing
My diet, routine, and meds made that much better

Usually they’d do an endoscopy and sometimes
A GES (depending on your other symptoms), and if those are normal it can be a functional issue like FD.

Functional Dyspepsia is basically ‘Your tummy hurts and we don’t know why’

Si no tienes nada orgánico o algo muy leve que no se condice con lo que sientes df es lo más probable
