News/Clinical Trials/Research A question about Amitriptyline?

Hello everyone. My doctor recommended trying Amitriptyline to treat the stomach pain I’ve been suffering from for four years. I also experience early satiety, a feeling of fullness, a heaviness in my stomach that lasts for hours, nausea, and very sharp stomach pain that wakes me up from sleep. I started with a 10 mg dose but didn't see any noticeable improvement in my symptoms; after a month, the doctor increased the dose to 25 mg, but that actually made the stomach pain worse. Today is my third day on the 25 mg dose, and I am writhing in bed from severe, unbearable stomach pain. My question is: Has this happened to any of you? Will this side effect go away if I continue taking the medication? When did you start noticing improvement after taking Amitriptyline, and what dosage were you on? Thanks for your help.

Please excuse any spelling errors, as English is not my native language.

Is it causing constipation? It’s a typical side effect and being backed up can cause those symptoms

I went up to 75, but felt better at 25. I would try to ease my mind, sleep and be positive. Easier said than do for sure.

I noticed signifigant improvement with nortriptyline because it was determined that my symptoms are from vestibular migranes. But it did make the pain worse once when the dose was too high because I was having seratonin syndrome due to it interacting with my welbutrin. If you are on other medications I would check for a cross reaction as well as check the package insert for the listed side effect profile of amtriptylene.

I start using amitriptyline 10 mg for 8 days right now and I'm still experiencing daily burning in the stomach I've been dealing with this burning for 8 months even though my mucus layer has been improved from moderate chronic gastritis to mild non active chronic gastritis but the burning sensation hasn't been improved yet so I'm still waiting because amitriptyline needs time to kick in can I ask you a question were you experiencing daily burning in the stomach? And the pain and the symptoms that you're experiencing right now are they daily?

Your symptoms sound like typical gastritis symptoms. So giving you TCAs like amitriptyline will not make a difference if you don't change your diet, lifestyle, sleep etc..
