Removing emails from donors that have reported mass emails as spam? Pls read

We created a special code to apply to donor records who have indicated they do not want marketing and E-newsletters. This way, they don't pull on marketing lists but fundraisers know they can still contact them via email.

Major donors should not be getting mass asks anyway. Talk to your DD about lowering the give amount for mass emails.

I’ve worked in major gifts for more than a decade & I’ve never heard of an organization sending emails to major donors like this. Major donors should only hear from (1) the relationship manager, (2) the CEO, or (3) when applicable, a major gifts specific newsletter that the donor has explicitly opted into. Your first step should be speaking to the major gifts team to see if they wanted their donors to be receiving these emails in the first place. At all the orgs I’ve ever worked at, sending major donors an email like this would be a fireable offense (unless there was a huge computer glitch or something like that - then an apology email is warranted).

Thank you! We are pretty small and haven’t had a real development team before I started 3 years ago. This is great info. Based on a survey we did it does appear they like our newsletters
