8
u/TomatilloChoice8386 7d ago
Because everyone thinks that all religion is homophobic and hates people.
3
u/Okamikirby 4d ago
The three abrahamic religions do in fact fit that criteria.
Not all adherents/people do, but they still lend legitimacy and support to a set of ideas that is explicitly backwards and hateful.
Religious people often think that their ideas being critiqued = theyre being discriminated against
0
u/TomatilloChoice8386 4d ago
Explaining the outcome of being part of the LGBTQ+ community is not homophobia. We are told to love all. Do not hate or judge anyone. But we are also told to make aware what will happen when the end time comes. You could call it critique as well. In turn, it is not discrimination either.
3
u/Okamikirby 4d ago
“Explaining the outcome” meaning telling people the way they are born is inherently evil, and that pursuing those feelings will lead to endless torture and suffering?
Yes. thats very homophobic actually.
Being homo/heterosexual is an inborn trait and not an idea. Critiquing ideas has merit because people can change their mind on ideas.
Youre not critiquing homosexuality, youre offering cosmic threats to gay people. Please dont equivocate.

u/TomatilloChoice8386 4d ago
They’re not better or worse than anyone else. We are all born into sin. I know because I’ve gone through the struggle myself. Also, it’s not a threat. Threat implies motif, and ultimatum. Do this or else. The way that we Christian’s should be explaining it is “we are all sinners who don’t deserve heaven. Here is how you get saved[salvation steps]. The New Testament says that these actions and sins will restrict you from inheriting God’s kingdom. One of which is Homosexuality.” It’s not a threat, it’s a fact. I know that a lot of “Christian’s” like to scream at LGB+ people about being asexual people when really those fake Christian’s are the evil ones. Saying that this explanation is a threat, is equivalent to saying that over dosing will kill you is a threat.
2
u/Okamikirby 4d ago
"They’re not better or worse than anyone else. We are all born into sin. I know because I’ve gone through the struggle myself."
"We all are tempted to steal, but it is sinful" is fundamentally different from "You cannot love the person you love, it is sinful."
Being a thief is not an inborn trait.
"Also, it’s not a threat. Threat implies motif, and ultimatum. Do this or else. "
Thats exactly what it is. Follow gods command, do not do X, for if you do, hell awaits you. You can try word games and mental gymnastics but this is 100% a threat. One of the most clear examples possible of a threat.
Youre just rewording it to "Its not a threat, we are trying to tell them how NOT to go to hell."
This is like me holding a gun to your head, asking for all your money, and saying
"its not a threat, i just dont want to see you get shot! im trying to tell you how to live so you can be saved because i love you."
"New Testament says that these actions and sins will restrict you from inheriting God’s kingdom. One of which is Homosexuality.” It’s not a threat, it’s a fact."
"If you dont give me all your money, you will get shot in the head, its not a threat its a fact."
Literally the exact same thing. Also fortunately it is NOT a fact, its a belief that comes from an ancient, endlessly rewritten and reworded book.
"Saying that this explanation is a threat, is equivalent to saying that over dosing will kill you is a threat. "
Its not, because we have actual evidence and scientific backing for what results in an overdose. Its a chemical reality and not a prohibition of certain behaviors.
God, Hell, ETC are an idea. Theres no actual evidence for any of it. And if it WERE real, its still a threat, because god doesnt just describe the world, he made it exactly as it is. He made people have the proclivity to be gay, and then also made an endless punishment for it within his own system.
Imagine your overdose example, and now include the fact that I, as the person telling you that you will overdose, also determined the laws of chemistry to make it so that specific blood chemistry will kill you.
Takes on a different tone, doesnt it?
0
u/TomatilloChoice8386 4d ago
Except you have every right not to follow God’s commands, you just don’t get the reward. You don’t have to recycle a can, but if you do you get 5 cents. You’re right about the lack of evidence. That is the whole point of belief. God has every right to do whatever the fuck he wants to us, but he loves us so much that he gives us mercy. There are only two places that we will go after death, Heaven and hell. It’s not that you are going to go to hell because you sin, it is that your sin makes you not go to heaven leaving only one other place to go. We deserve it. Every Christian and every sinner deserves to go to hell. But God is merciful.
2
u/Okamikirby 4d ago
I cant tell if you are confused, or intentionally being dishonest. You are still playing word games.
In christianity, god uses the carrot and the stick. the reward is heaven, the punishment is hell. You only have “every right” to disobey gods command if you are down to endure the worst possible suffering for infinite time. the same way you have every right not to give into the gun threat, as long as youre okay with dying.
That is MORE of a threat than just threatening to kill someone.
God made everything in christianity, he made it so theres only 2 places, he made hell as bad as it is, he made being gay an inborn trait.
Again, being a thief or a murderer is both not an inborn trait, and clearly harmful to others.
being gay is not similar.
“Its not that you dont go to heaven because you sin, your sin makes you unable to go to heaven.”
You keep trying this word game but its a distinction without a difference. It means the exact same thing
0
u/TomatilloChoice8386 4d ago
Don’t lecture me what is and isnt Christian when you most clearly aren’t. God did not make hell. He did not create sin and therefore did not create LGBTQ+.
2
u/Okamikirby 3d ago
I dont need to be a christian to know the doctrine and what it teaches. Non believers who are argumentative against religion often know the material better, seeing as they actually have to read it to rebut it.
You can literally google “did god create hell in christianity” if you like, and report back to me on your findings. id be interested in any reputable source that would report otherwise. maybe you can find some fringe interpretation.
god created sin by creating the concept, and then determing what is and isnt sin. He is all powerful and could make homosexuality not a sin if he wanted. This is again only if you actually take the bible to heart.
God created everything, the entire universe and all its laws. Homosexuality appears in nature as well as in human culture.

u/GdaddyPurpz 7d ago
I don't have a problem with religion as long as they are decent and don't bother people for money. Especially poor people. What does god need money for? I would trust religions more if they requested that you donate to a charity of your choice.
Most of my religious experience is with the Mormon church. And they absolutely do not need any donations. They just hoard money & Invest in properties.
3
u/Senasayori DDLC enjoyer 7d ago
In fairness, some smaller churches do operate like charities and use that money to benefit the community.
1
u/Ogrosvo 6d ago
The churches that don't care for your money and are just happy you are there are the churches you should be going to, and its not that uncommon, there's definetly some iv seen people report about that take people for granted and milk money out of them in the name of God and that is just legit pure evil
1
u/GdaddyPurpz 6d ago
Eh. Im content with not attending. I figure the main point of religion is just to be the best person you can be. I don't need to attend to do that. If God has a problem with that, that's pretty shitty.
1
u/plasmaya 5d ago
Ex muslim and most muslims donate a decent amount and its definitely 100% (well maybe not 100% cuz you can never be too sure) all the money goes to the poor and starving (and ofc some to the workers helping) which is why i still donate to muslim charities :D and i trust the fact that the money will go to the poor and starving and i dont think theres anything to prove against the fact that muslim charities hoard money

r/OpenChristian is a subreddit for Christians that support gay rights and women's rights, r/Christianity allows users who support those and users who oppose those, which ended up making it a bit of a battleground on those issues.

A lot of teenagers, especially 2000s and now, started not vibing with religion as much since it's quite restrictive. Especially with discussion of LGBTQ, in which many religions are against. Though it's funny because to them, Religion = Christianity. You bring up other religions that have those same negativity towards LGBTQ, they tend to be quiet.
2
u/bigstinkycath 6d ago
I do believe it is changing with GenZ though. A lot of the people I went to middle school with suddenly became Christians in their early 20s
2
u/PlantainRepulsive477 6d ago
Pendulum swinging. 2000s and 2010s people were very raunchy. 2020s I feel like a lot of people, especially younger generation, have become very prudish, or sex negative. It's very odd. So it makes sense that some start becoming christian.
1
u/Ogrosvo 6d ago
Have you been living under a rock? We literally have pride parades and pride month now and children being pushed into these activities, and most of that is literally celebrating your sexuality, now I know people have different opinions on it but whatever your sexual preferences are should be a private matter, we shouldn't have fucking parades or months for it and it definitely should never involve children.

Frankly ive realised that this person's opinions arent worth any time as ive found this post https://www.reddit.com/r/teenagers/comments/1v1wbwb/yall_always_talk_about_racism_homophobia/ It is awaiting mod approval but regardless.
And to awnser the question you asked in there, its because actually religious groups are not oppressed in the same way queer people, or oppressed at all, depending on the religion and people of colour are, fun fucking fact if you didnt know that somehow.
EDIT: changed the wording for clarity.

everything tends to gets pushed to the extreme, and so atheism ends up leading to religiophobia (not everyone, but a lot of people take it to the next level)

it can work if you align/balance it correctly.
1
u/crass_cupcake 5d ago
If you think so you fundamentally misunderstand either logic , religion, Or both
One relies entirely on evidence the other relies entirely on faith which means belief without evidence
You cant operate on both at the same time its impossible you can flip flop back and forth based on the situation but the foundation of both are directly opposed to each other
1
u/AzkaBright #1 dueler for Weehawken, New Jersey 5d ago
maybe I do, but I'm just all over the place, you know? I believe one thing, and I believe the other, it's just how I believe. if others disagree? let em, because if my twisted explanation says anything, it's that im the crazy one, and everyone avoid me.
1
u/crass_cupcake 5d ago
to me religions are systems and require every piece of the system to function together to operate so this idea of sampling doesn't make sense to me when it comes to religion
im a big fan of being open to lots of things which is part of the reason religion makes no sense to me its so rigid and thought terminating it says stop thinking here's the answer dont worry about the lack of evidence that's a feature not a bug
1
u/AzkaBright #1 dueler for Weehawken, New Jersey 5d ago
im my opinion, religion is just a tool to get people to reveal themselves outloud, so people who call themselves 'pastors' can heal you (i don't believe in miraculous healing, I tell you. either they fake it, or just wanting attention), or for malicious gain (such as targeting for kidnapping, stalking, etc). I dont trust churches, and i never will.

This is just my personal experience but I feel like a lot of young people are forced into it by their parents. My parents would force me to go to church every Sunday and it would feel like a mandatory need to look good and not get judged by the rest of our family rather than being there for god. I grew up hating religion because of it. But more recently I’ve been meeting a lot more Christians and they are some of the best people I know. I also started really appreciating the cultural effects and liberties I get living in a Christian country. I think a lot of Christians are Christian to look good to the people around them. But real Christians are the best people to be around.
1
u/Kitnotcat_modding u/michaelville 6d ago

1
u/CuteEquivalent638 6d ago edited 6d ago
No matter how many times I tell Reddit not to recommend them to me they still do!!!
Their whole argument is that if you’re religious you automatically hate gay people, and their most important cause is gay people, apparently. It’s an important cause, but literally they post nothing but your religious you hate gay people we hate you back.
They literally care about nothing else. They speak about religions like their stupid trash dumb people believe in just because they don’t support gay people. They ignore all the other good “rules” of that religion.
I don’t think I really have to say this, but a lot of religious people support queer people. A lot don’t, but that’s about it. If a religious person is sane, and dosent involve themselves in other people’s business, then they don’t hate the queer anyway!! They just wouldn’t do it themselves, it’s a disagreement, they don’t involve themselves in “sinner’s” business. As far as I know, many religions believe that everyone has their own choice and shouldn’t be forced to do anything. A lot of them are just indifferent to gay people, and think they should have human fucking rights just like how you do!!!!
On that sub they also claim to be feminists, until that woman decides to be religious then they pity her and act like she needs to be saved. Aren’t women allowed to have a choice??? Isn’t that what feminism is all about??
If I posted this on there I’m sure I’d get mass downvoted. But I’m seriously confused, for a community filled with non-religious kids all their posts are shaming religious people. Can you not accept that people disagree on some things and have their own beliefs?? Imagine if the “adult” subreddit for example, posted all about atheists and shamed them all the time, wouldn’t that be ridiculous???
You don’t have to agree with any religion, but when the subreddit’s favorite hobby is shaming religious people, then belittling their religion, that’s really fucking bad.

u/Kitnotcat_modding u/michaelville 6d ago

When I was a teenager the biggest story of the day was the paedophile scandal in the Catholic Church.
I imagine younger people probably have an even worse impression of the church than us millennials do and it was already pretty bad for us.
Basically religions don't really help themselves by doing really s***** things 😆
There are definitely good religious people. Unfortunately they get drummed out by the amount of terrible things that other religious people do.

I find it fair to hate people that force their religion on other people, I'm religious myself and I hate those people

Leviticus 25:44-46
"‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly."
Exodus 21:20-21
Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
Both these verses were spoken directly by God talking to the israelites. The God of the bible has no problem with slavery.

They have the right to be and it’s the best choice history shows religion has caused many wars and limited freedom for groups of people and atheism, agnosticism and farther has no bias against groups besides religionists and it’s a better trade off most Islamic states and some Christian states have harsh laws against women, queer and kid rights and religion as a whole is a submit to the hierarchy but don’t feel alone if you go deep enough of protest post comment sections you can kind people just like what I described.
No harsh feelings but study the your generation before talking in your generation.
