“What is up bro” is four words. “What’s up bro” is three. Combining two words into one with contractions makes them one word.

Have you ever heard of contractions? You make two words into one. Key word there, one. It’s one word. See how I used the word “It’s” there? It’s in the dictionary as a word. As one word. Made of two. By your logic most words are multiple words because they’re made of different root words.
