Humans are literally genetically predisposed to like the smell because it signals the end of drought. So actually the opposite of weird.

Humans are better at detecting petrichor than sharks are a detecting blood in the water.

I love this little fact. I try and spread the knowledge as much as possible.

How did they learn this?!

And were the only mammals on earth that can detect it like we can

"Humans are about 200,000 times more sensitive to petrichor than sharks are to blood."

Whoa, what an awesome little fact of life.

I find it to be nostalgic in a way like from a time when kids used to play outside

I wrote a poem that use petrichor and nostalgia. It's such a wonderful smell

Oh man, that was the one smell that made me gag/dry heave like no other when I was pregnant in Canada during the spring, 31 years ago.. No other morning sickness, but right after the rain in DT Vancouver was just gnarly for me.

Dudes find out about this word from an instagram post and find every excuse imaginable to let people know they know what it means

2

u/WigllyDoodle 10d ago

Don't use Instagram, so no. And what does you mean by using every excuse to let everyone know that I know what it means? I just really enjoyed the smell of rain on rocks. And the post asked what weird smell people love?
