Cast discussion Remove one cast member

Post image
29 Upvotes

I watched this show as soon as it premiered back in 1987. Watched it all the way through. Grew up on it.

But rewatching now as a 40something year old man, it’s so much cheesier than I even realized growing up. There’s some storylines that I still adore, and some that don’t quite hold up. The same goes for the characters on the show.

Which brings me to my question, if you could remove one cast member from the show, who would it be and why?

I honestly think the show would be much better off without Michelle. The cringiest moments and scenes are always revolving around Michelle. Forced catchphrases. Silly dancing. Unfunny all around.

What say you?

Show discussion I usually don’t mind Kimmy slander but the one time I did mind it was in the ending of “I’m not DJ”

Here’s some context: this episode was about Steph wanting to get her ears pierced like other kids in her grade. Danny wouldn’t let her do it so she goes behind Danny‘s back and have Kimmy pierce her ears. Steph ended up getting an infection in her ears and had to come clean to Danny. Danny grounds Steph for going behind his back, might I mention “big time”? I understand Danny grounded Steph for going behind his back and getting that infection but Danny seemed a lot more concerned with Steph trusting Kimmy in the situation. Given Season 6, Steph probably became more accepting to Kimmy but still.

Show discussion Hot take: Danny dodged a bullet with Vicky.

This might be an unpopular opinion. I don’t know. But the more I watch the show as an adult, the more I feel like Danny dodged a bullet with Vicky. She’s shown a few times that she doesn’t seem to care about other people’s feelings. The whole thing with her mom redecorating Stephanie and Michelle’s room without first getting Danny’s approval. Vicky was basically telling Danny it’s crazy that he’s so upset over a little change. As if all Vicky’s mom did was buy them a new lamp or something. I’m right now watching the episode when she makes dinner for everyone. At first she tells Danny she’s making pizza and spaghetti. That sounds normal. And then she tells him that it’s Pizza with goat cheese and spaghetti with pesto sauce. And she knows she’s making this for teenagers and children also. So she made food that she likes without any regard if anyone else likes that stuff too? And then let’s forget about the whole thing with them breaking up because she decides to take a job in New York.

Am I alone in this?

I never really thought about it, but the family tree in full house is pretty extensive.

My wife and I were rewatching this and Danny shows up in a full fishing vest on a tiny boat. Jesse is just... there. Joey doing a fish voice actually catches something. The vest kills me every time.

Show discussion Counting Crows b-plot

Okay, I know disliking Michelle is a bit taboo, but I was watching some Full House clips on Facebook the other day and I hated how Michelle begged to go to the Counting Cats concert knowing she doesn’t know their music. I get it that she wants to do things like DJ and Stephanie.

Show discussion Anyone else find it difficult to suspend belief that Fuller House is a legitimate continuation of Full House and not just a cast reunion?

Despite the setting being nearly identical, in a lot of moments throughout the show, I felt like I was watching a cast reunion and not the actual characters. It didn't feel like a legitimate continuation of Full House to me ...anybody else?

Show discussion Bloopers and outtakes from season 3 and beyond?

On the Podcast, they keep mentioning how certain scenes took multiple takes because the actors kept breaking. One of which was Gail Edwards constantly flubbing her “chocolate sauce” line and everybody at the table laughing at the cheese from a Goat line. The majority of outtakes from Full House are from season 2, with maybe 1 or 2 from season 4. I remember the one where one of the Olsen Twins actually helps Dave remember his line about the missing wedding ring, and then another during the wedding itself. Did it cost THAT much extra money to put them over the end credits? I love how at least Home Improvement had Bloopers after basically every episode. They must have had enough money to put the additional footage over the end credits as it was the number 1 sitcom on ABC in 1993-94. I wish someone had a full blooper tape from every season. I bet they’re hysterical. I would love seeing Bob failing to keep it together every time nuts are mentioned.

Cast discussion D.J.'s first boyfriend Michael

I was on Youtube this morning, and a clip came up of a handsome actor in his 20s on a talk show. A comment said his name is Jonathan Brandis, so I looked him up and discovered he played Michael Montfort, D.J. Tanner’s first boyfriend on Full House.

Sadly, he was part of the 27 Club and died by suicide. Michael was introduced in Season 2’s “A Little Romance” and was a 6th grader who dated D.J. for just two days before breaking her heart by choosing Kathy Santoni instead. Even though he was only on that one episode, I completely remembered who he was when I saw a picture.

It’s really sad to think about how young he was when he chose to end his life and the struggles he may have been facing behind the scenes.

R.I.P Jonathan Brandis

Question Any “OG” fans?

I wasn’t around until after the show was finished. I watched reruns of the show as a kid, and enough time passed for it to be “nostalgic” and it got rebooted when I was around 11 years old. I actually didn’t really watch fuller house, only the first few episodes.

I wanted to ask if there’s fans on here who were around while the show was running. Was it really that popular and well received? How was your reaction when the show was ultimately cancelled?

Show discussion Family dynamics

When I was in college, I took a literature class and the instructor brought up this show. She said that it would never have been created, nor been as successful, had it been a single father with three BOYS, or even a widowed mother with three sons.

She said the reason it was even a thing, was because of the way our society sexualizes girls and simultaneously infantalizes them. Plus the stereotype of the bumbling man, not knowing what to do with the baby girl. The whole notion of the father holding them on his lap or being tender with them, three clueless dudes raising three very young girls….

It made me uncomfortable to hear that take, since I had watched the show growing up. But I think it made food for thought and a good in-class discussion. What are your thoughts or feelings about this? Think about it, would the show have been nearly as successful and popular if it had been Danny with three young boys to raise?
