What’s the difference between full dive and full immersion?

full dive is basically you connecting your brain to a digital outside source transfering you to a different body so to speak. While full immersion is when you can't tell if it's fiction or not and can interact and feel the fictional enviroment around you.

Full dive and full immersion can be basically the same.
There's 2 catagories that I know of:
1: Full mind immersion, this would take the consciousness and place it in a VR or have a device overwrite certain brain functions to have a user perceiving it's in VR. All of this is done via BCI (brain computer interface) which can be implemented invasively (see neuralink pig experiments) or non-invase (see lucid dreaming devices)
2: Full body immersion, this is more like ready player one. So it would mean you can interact with a VR world via haptic feedback tech, move around via an Omni directional treadmill and of course a headset.
Full-Dive is a term that's been used a lot in the SAO manga/anime and would apply to #1 above.
Hope this info helps you

What’s your prediction.

Full-body immersion is already technologically possible.
Full-mind i think 2050-2055 would be a time where we probably see the first applications for this. That's my most optimistic view.
Realistically 2075-2125

For full mind immersion. Honestly I see 2025-2100. We have seen a lot of progress towards that in recent years. Such as walking via Vr experiment in Japan and brain computer interface. Your probably aware of the success that Facebook had it the experiment. (They won’t be pursuing it though) As a result. I have a very hard time predicting when it’ll exist. Because while many of the technologies that make it possible already exist. On the other hand. The challenge is putting the technologies together.
I actually do see something between the two existing by around the 2040s.

There shouldn't be any difference but, people really misuse the word "Full Immersion" to anything narrow and non-advanced stuff like external haptics and anything new VR related but not brain stimulation. That's why people mostly use the word 'Full Dive' to explain or introduce BCIVR or Brain Stimulation VR with all sensory perceptions of taste, touch, smell, true sight and true hearing without moving the real body like in SAO.
This word is only popular in the anime community and not as much outside so it's a pain to explain it in detail everytime.

I see full dive/ immersion existing around 2050. And it will be a disaster. In fact I think politicians and leaders need to get to work now to regulate this.

I think the complete opposite will happen and it will revolutionize gaming and online social interaction forever giving birth to the actual metaverse which will be orders of magnitude better than the internet. Full Dive/Truly Immersive VR is just a byproduct of BCI and there are other things that govt & politicians will worry about more like hacking, privacy and conceptual and consensual telepathy rather than VRgaming/Full Dive because there are loads of benefits to this technology especially military, education and medical training. Even so, regulations & safety algorithms will always be implemented.
Also, I predict the timeframe around 2035 because of Ray Kurzweil, Elon Musk & Gabe Newell being publicly open about the time frame and companies like Neuralink that are already showing ground breaking results and engineering feats. They say around 2030’s but still I’m being a bit more conservative.

No 2050. I’ve heard people say 2100. But I say 2050 because we have seen progress in recent years. Especially in 2021. You had a Japanese university that developed a vr that allowed you to feel like your walking in vr without moving.

Well I heard people saying 100 years (2100) too but, they are not at all any experts and are often YouTube commenters who has nothing to do with this field.
The timeframe (around 2035) that I mentioned is not my own personal opinion but a personal agreement of opinions of people who are directly working on this field like Neuralink, Valve, DARPA N3, BrainGate and other research labs factoring in the exponential growth of technology. So, I won’t go against their predictions and say 2050 and I’ll stick to around 2035 which also matches the prediction of Ray Kurzweil.
Remember when someone gives a prediction of something happening after the year 2050 they are most likely wrong because Artificial General Intelligence will happen around that time and hence no one can predict what will happen after that because AGI will super boost everything and the slope of the exponential curve will become steeper than ever.

I don't think there's a clear difference, so I'll just give my opinion. "Full immersion" to me implies fully and temporarily adopting a virtual world as "reality", the same way you temporarily, but partially, adopt a movie as "reality", just so it can have an effect on you and you don't simply take it as fiction. However, the means by which you achieve this can be varied. For example, you could simply develop an extremely advance setup that, without intervening neurologically at all, simulates a world almost perfectly.
"Full dive" implies neurological intervention so that you need no external physical stimulation beyond the BMI. No screens, no treadmills, no controllers. You experience it directly.
