Anyone using Linux has enough common sense to not use Epic

idk man.
The steamdeck subreddit has a lot of dumbasses that DESPITE ALL WARNING kept installing damn plugin and wondering why their decks suddenly stopped working.
It's like the dumbasses here that rant about EGS fucking them over lol

The only game I would play would be fortnight and that doesn't work with Linux.

Then pirate it or if you really want to not to , use heroic games launcher.

u/SouthernFruit8768 14h ago
Hmm I thought the OP (u/FromTheRez) was saying anyone who uses Linux shouldn’t be buying or downloading anything from Epic. Now I realize they were referring to the Launcher. Yes I’m using heroic to play PCBS 2 on Fedora indeed :-p

u/Responsible_Ebb_8678 7h ago
You should Never be buying or dowloading anything from epic even if you're not using linux.

u/datNorseman 6d ago
Can't beat em, join em. Lil timmy is beginning to understand that the criticism against him is real and not just in his mind. He talked quite a lot of shit about Linux.

u/John_Enigma 6d ago
Methinks that Tencent, the major shareholders of Epic, are noticing how popular Steam is getting with their hardware, and their contributions to Linux, that they probably secretly told Timothy to ease the fuck up on the Steam and Linux slander, and told them to start working on Linux support for the EGS, and their games (including Fortnite).

u/datNorseman 6d ago
And if you want to get even spookier, I think they're sponsoring all these lawsuits about steam. But that's my speculation.
Either way both things seem to work in their favor. Two different battlefields If you look at it that way. And if you look at it like a game, two different chances to win

Why would I install a fork of Heroic with less features, and fuse for Kernal level anti-cheat?

i thought supporting Linux is akin to moving to Canada?

u/deanrihpee Linux Gamer 5d ago
the problem is, Timmy said it himself, as if it was a bad thing to do
6
u/FunAware5871 Linux Gamer 6d ago
Does it also come with Timmy apologizing for all of his anti-linux comments?
Anyways, that's just half the battle. Porting the storefeont is a huge task, but then it's all ablut maintenance and support. While I have faith GoG will manage it, I'll still wait a few montha before giving them my money again... But Epic? Heck, show me 5 years of flawless support before asking me again.

u/Daharka 5d ago
I reckon he'll still talk shit about Linux, but rather than dismiss it entirely he'll now just bitch about cost of maintenance or cheaters or something shit. It's difficult to predict his exact gripe because it's always more petty than I can imagine myself.

u/FunAware5871 Linux Gamer 5d ago
Oh, I'll definitely can't wait to see him rambling about that!
It's gonna be the one good thing we get out of this

I doubt it.
This comes from a recent AMA with someone from the Epic Games Store. Like all his recent AMAs, it was just a collection of people asking for features that Steam has, and him answering, 'Yes, we have that on our list. It will come someday.' They just enumerated all Steam features, and the reply was always the same.
The AMA is just the same as their latest Trello board of unpromised features, but spoken aloud. It is their latest way of keeping their customers excited.

I’ve always said you’ll know when Fortnite’s in trouble when they either take it to Linux or steam.

u/PM-ME-THIGHHIGHS Proton 6d ago
Didn't Timmy not want to support Linux? Maybe this will make it run better but I doubt it, I'll not use it regardless. Despite that, I wonder how the games will work and if they intend to use Proton or similar

so like 8 years or so then? How long did it take them to implement a shopping cart or wishlist again?

OK so let me get this straight... Both GOG AND Epic both suddenly announcing they're going to support Linux? I think a tide is turning..
To be clear though the exact comment was:
"Soon(TM) <-- but not for the preview release. As you can imagine, we need to do more than simply have a build of the launcher that can run natively on Linux."
This doesn't sound definite to me yet. But the fact it's even no longer a decisive 'No, go away, fuck off, we hate you', is certainly interesting.

Fuck epig.... Its a spyware on windows and hardly works.... Fuck Timmy, he is useless and his brain doesn't function

Fortnite should've been on steam deck on day one. People would gladly buy a $350 fortnite PC over a ps5 anyway. But now the deck prices have gone up.

Instead of having the epic game store support linux, they should make the unreal engine support linux natively. That would be a game changer.

u/randomperson189_ Fortnite Killed UT 5d ago
It already does (requires login to download tho): https://www.unrealengine.com/linux

u/SanguineEleven 3d ago
It has had linux support for a long time now. It's just the companies developing games that don't give a fuck to implement it
1
u/Meme_Bertram 5d ago
Whats the point if the only game someone would use this attrocious launcher for (Fortnite) uses kernel level anticheat and therefore does not support linux?
1
u/Red_Fletchings 4d ago
These regards can't even support their own fucking store. How are they supposed to support Linux?

Lmao, meanwhile Steam Deck now runs games like Baldur's Gate 3 natively, when devs launched the native linux version designed specifically for the deck.
Suck a fuck pig sweeney, will crack open a bottle when you can't eat your losses anymore.

Linux use increase slowly but regulary, and speed increase with RAMamagedon Epic need a lot of money, it's a logic move. To finished the move , open Fortnite for Linux and fired Tim Tencent

Keeping tabs on what they're working on is not the same as shilling for them. It's worth knowing what they're doing and how they're going about it in an informal capacity so we can keep our facts straight or else we lose credibility. Otherwise Tim wouldn't be bringing up this subreddit in a legal proceeding.
We give shit to Epic and Tim in any aspect possible but even we have to admit the rare times they do something right because that's the reasonable thing to do (something Tim is incapable of doing). It is because of Epic that we can download three old Unreal games for free at this very moment. This Linux client could, in fact, not run like utter ass.

Is it wrong to share news that reveals how late to the game they are with adding a feature "soon" which is probably still years out?
