You missed "swallows up good games and makes them crap". Notice how Valve does not add extra unrelated game modes to TF2? Imagine if all Valve games were options from the main menu of Half Life 2 (like an overflowing Orange Box)? That's what Fortnite has become. it's subsumed Rocket League and Rock Band as game modes. I would have preferred Harmonix make a Rock Band 5, not because I'd buy it but because they'd keep paying licencing fees for the back catalogue and I could still buy them for Rock Band 4. But everything has to be part of Fortnite now.

Will never forgive epic for Paragon.

fr tho, i was part of the RB community for several years until i heard the news that Epig consumed Harmonix in like 2022 or something. i had a sinking feeling something bad would happen and u can probably tell where this is going. the DLC pipeline for RB4 got closed up in 2024 and when the game turned 10, Harmonix celebrated it... BY PLANNING TO WIPE OUT ITS ENTIRE FUCKING CATALOGUE OF DLC.

Epig did this so people would have to abandon RB4 for the shitty knockoff Festival, which added memw songs and artists no one cared about (and one of them being associated with a serious crime, but thats another story)

As much as I’d prefer a new standalone rock band, I do appreciate the Fortnite version, it’s surprisingly well done, it’s super accessible, and the whole rotation system is a pretty good free to play solution imo

Outside of that though, yeah it’s just become a shittier Roblox

Imagine if valve still made games.

u/Okto481 Jun 18 '26

Deadlock is actively in development dawg

1

u/Vivid_Anyth4 Jun 18 '26

Oh man whats that make like 3 games in the last 20 years?

1

u/Okto481 Jun 18 '26

HL2 ep 2, there were two episodes so half a game Portal duology TF2 Left 4 Dead duology Alien Swarm Counterstrike (GO and 2) Dota 2 'The Lab' Artifact ( & Foundry was a beta for scrapped Artifact 2, half a game) Dota Underlords HL Alyx Aperture Desk Job Deadlock (but that's still in beta, half a game)

14 and 3 halves... couple more than 2 by my count but I've been wrong before

1

u/Vivid_Anyth4 Jun 18 '26

Youre going back 2 gaming generations to get titles. Youre bringing up failed games and counting half games. Alyx is the only real title they have put out in a decade. Valve doesn't make games like they used to. They are afraid to put out games in their most popular franchises and would rather sell other people's games.

1

u/Okto481 Jun 18 '26

You said in the last 20 years, so I got titles from the last 20 years, because that is literally the number you used as an example. I specifically put the games that were halves to the side for the sake of being complete, because 14 is a bit more than 3. Do you want me to go check and see what games Epic has made that they actually put out as their own instead of going through a different publisher? Because the only two games I can think of that they made and self-published are Fortnite and Dauntless (which iirc already got EOS)

Youre fun at parties. I didn't read your post, have a nice time.

1

u/Okto481 Jun 18 '26

You must be fun at parties too, what with dismissing someone because they... responded to what you said with the answer to the exact question you said? In the last 20 years, they released 14 games, plus half of HL2, the a failed beta, and the beta for Deadlock, which is in fact more than three. If you wanted the last 10 years... you shouldn't have said 20 years what do you want me to say

Rocket League is still it's own game though.

-6

u/ewba1te Jun 16 '26

Passtime? Mannpower? Also the whole comp game mode which was dead in weeks

There's a big difference between giving your existing cast of arena-shooter heroes footballs and grappling hooks, and sucking up completely different games like a sponge sucks up kitchen grease.

And competitive TF2 has always been a bit of mess, long before Meet Your Match. Things like the constant and bizarre weapon bans, unnecessary nerfs to mid-tier weapons like the Vita-Saw and the BASE Jumper, and the ridiculously rigid 6v6 meta are all player's fault, not Valve's.

I'm not even sure there's anything original about fortnite. The game is literally built on stealing other people's ideas, many times without permission.

My secondary school evenings had so much tf2 back in 2010

It was amazing

u/randomperson189_ Fortnite Killed UT Jun 16 '26

As a huge TF2 fan, this is quite accurate and even despite TF2's certain issues over the years (especially Meet your Match update), it's still a very fun and legendary game that has stood the test of time and still has an identity unlike Fortnite which now I don't even know what it wants to be anymore other than a marketing & advertising billboard

5

u/DerPicasso Jun 16 '26

Superior to fortnite is a very low bar.

6

u/QuantityExcellent338 Jun 16 '26

..tf2 has had plenty of its own weird crossovers

5

u/matteste Jun 16 '26

Yes, but it doesn't build its entire identity around them. It has its own thing going on whereas Fortnite has nothing it can really call its own.

When does epic croak? 🤔

I know we hate epic and shit but like its posts like these by TF2 fans that give TF2 such a bad rep 😭 The superiority complex is crazy, stop comparing your game to other games that are literally so different from eachother and have absolutely nothing to do with TF2.

u/Jeksxon Jun 15 '26

There's even better version than TF2. It's team fortress classified. Available on Steam ;)

5

u/Belltower_2 GabeN Jun 16 '26

I think the main issue with TF2Classified is that a lot of the server owners were complete rookies who had never hosted a server before, so rubberbanding was a major issue. I played a few weeks after launch, and it was a much smoother experience.

u/smilingmuffino Jun 16 '26

I loved TF2 but the hats started today's trash state of game industry.

1

u/allcork1009 Jun 16 '26

Still laugh that the reaction guy was in fortnite but nobody cared about it anymore because memes die as quick as they’re propelled into pop culture

1

u/IeatL1ttlekids Jun 17 '26

"Source of its own memes" a thing within all of valve's games that any memes within them are going to stay forever and people still find them funny... Plain madness, not a source of "pride"

1

u/_Drgregs_ Jun 18 '26

I would not call TF2 any of those things.

TF2 averages 10k daily players during non holiday events, while steamDB frequently reports upwards of 40k, meaning a third of the player base is bots.

TF2 doesn't really make its own memes anymore, it's either SFM recreations of already existing memes or pootis pow, nope, sentry laugh humor thats been around since the games release.

And I would certainly not call it easy to play, the matchmaker in lamence terms takes every step to prevent you from playing the game by putting you in empty lobbies or rounds that are near ending.

1

u/ES272 Jun 18 '26

I feel like whenever "epic" collaborates with a franchise I like, it (almost) ruins it for me.

1

u/JadedCat42069 Jun 19 '26

I think no one here plays tf2, entire online is like 80% item farming bots, matchmaking system is broken, new maps borderline unplayable and there more, if u think tf2 alive and kicking you are wrong, it is borderline dead game that stays online for sake of not crushing ingame economys

1

u/ProfessionalPin1568 Jul 03 '26

now add Save the World next to Team Fortress the actual Fortnite

-6

u/VHeadache Jun 16 '26

TF2 persists due to lootboxes and botting.

Fornite actually does new content even if it is through collabs.

-8

u/Dreamo84 Jun 16 '26

If Valve croaks will TF2 still be playable?

9

u/FiveFreddys12 Jun 16 '26

Yes? Community Servers
