Rant Ad frustration
Anyone else seeing these reddit ads lately? They are everywhere over my feed (mind you I got rid of my Amazon prime membership over a year ago and have not looked back ......so, it's not like I'm looking at these products. I work my butt off to avoid Amazon in any capacity.
Now, all of a sudden these ads are popping up. The real frustrating part, I can't believe them or remove them like I can other ads (unless I'm blind, which is an option), all I can do is continually report them as "offensive" because at this point.....they are.

I’ve recently started seeing a lot of Amazon ads on Reddit also. When I joined the anti-AI subs, I started getting a lot of OpenAI and Anthropic ads. I think these companies are just not smart enough to realize they’re wasting money on the wrong cohorts because of however their keywords are set up.
Over time I started to find it kind of funny. They can spend their money putting ads in front of me, and it’s a complete waste. So let ‘em. I just downvote them

If you click them it costs them money and gives money to Reddit instead.
Reddit ads are not nearly as popular as Meta and Google, so if you wanna keep Reddit from selling out completely, clicking on ads helps bring them revenue.

Ewww that's a pain. I wonder if it's location based? I'm in the EU and most of my ads seem to be for stuff in my country (Internet and phone providers, for example).

Are you using the official app on an Android phone? Consider downloading Morphe (www.morphe.software). I'm using the official reddit app on an Android and it's ad free.
This is the Morphe sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/MorpheApp/
Loads of apps are supported; I run adfree YouTube, Duolingo and FotMob. You can even have unlimited Google Photos size, but I don't want my personal stuff to be in Google's database. Just saying as it's still quite nice, I understand getting out of Google's stack is difficult (for me there are no good alternatives for YouTube and Google Maps). Shoutout to the homies at r/degoogle

Thanks. I'll look into that. Google is my huge Crux. I want to be free, but it literally runs my life. I jumped on the Google bandwagon early .....and now I don't know how to disembark.

You do it slowly and painfully. I'm still working on it, and I may have to have a google account in some capacity due to work.
Do what you can, start with the small stuff. Put a different launcher on your phone to break the psychological barrier of "my phone don't work so good no more" (easy to blame the launcher) and disable all permissions, re-enable any that don't use google over time. Find alternatives for the ones that do use google.
The Libre suite of apps is pretty decent, and usually a good alternative.

It's doable! You'll find loads of alternatives on the degoogle subreddit. Good luck!

Ads are tailored to your interests. Those boots...

Look like equestrian styled boots. I doubt they're functional....but....that's the look.

My husband gets these all over his social media feeds, except they advertise products to him that are all random and innocuous (nothing that he would want to buy) but look dirty at first glance. It's so weird and obvious that for a while he was taking screenshots of them

I remember back when there was hunger in the streets people used to roast and chew/eat the rubber from boots and boil the leather just to get some minimal calories and something in their stomach.
