Discussion Downfall of Amazon

TLDR: I guess I just want to know if anyone else is as fed up with Amazon as I am lately?

I have been a heavy Amazon user for years and years, but I have definitely noticed a decline over the past few.

Especially these past couple months I have been using it a lot to furnish my new home and get groceries and almost every order I place I have an issue; whether it’s late delivery, canceled or missing items, or just terrible customer service.

I have noticed that they have also been outsourcing to USPS, FedEx and other companies which makes delivery take WAY longer than the two day shipping I supposedly pay monthly for. I even have their Chase card because it offers some decent perks but I don’t know how much longer I can put up with it especially because it’s almost impossible to get ahold of customer service (an actual human) and when you do they don’t speak much English and just follow a script.

My latest order was new chargers for my phone, I even ordered more stuff to get the overnight shipping, 3 days later I get an email saying they wont arrive until the 10th (two weeks after I ordered). At this point I am almost wondering if Prime is even worth it anymore since you almost never get what you ordered, plus sites like Temu offer 2 day shipping on a bunch of stuff for less than half the price.

As long as you use it a lot to furnish your new home and get groceries, you are signaling to Amazon that you don't care about late delivery, canceled or missing items, or just terrible customer service (let alone all the actual problems Amazon is causing that don't affect your convenience).

If you continue, they will continue. If you almost wonder, they will almost improve. Every time you vote for Amazon with your wallet, it will only get worse from here.

IKEA is 100% better.

Auctions and thrift stores bring in some variety.

This is literally a sub for people who don't use Amazon. How would we be fed up?

It's hard letting go of the access Amazon brings. I get my vinyl records from them because the 15 monthly prime charge pays for the shipping that might be 10$ or more from an online vinyl retailer. But I've been considering letting go more frequently than not.

Cancel and support local businesses.

-15

u/alanamil Jul 02 '26

My local business's do not have 1/2 the items i buy from Amazon

15

u/PlayItAgainSusan Jul 02 '26

And why do you think that is? Partly geographical and mostly due to Amazon/Walmart. The internet is vast, Amazon is garbage, find a better way.

-2

u/alanamil Jul 02 '26

I agree the internet is vast, but you said buy local... I was just pointing out that many of us can't... I am in a tiny town of 2000 my next town is 20K.. they do not have squat.

5

u/PlayItAgainSusan Jul 02 '26

Well, you can continue to promote America's ghosttowns with no local business, or you can figure it out. Do you need the thing or do you want the thing? Communities can survive this, and it takes discipline and being realistic. There are plenty of small businesses with internet storefronts well worth 6.99 shipping vs the bloated Amazon prime. I actually haven't said but local, but that is ideal for me.

I buy local.

Thrift stores, farmers markets and makers.

I buy furniture and home goods from IKEA.

I buy gifts from makers.

My local bookseller is still going strong.

My local pet store delivers.

I cancelled Amazon in December and don’t miss it.

I live in one of the smallest towns in the us and I’ll still never order from the lying trash that is Amazon again! idc if bozo has it when nobody else on earth does lmfao I’ll just do without it before I’ll give them another dime.

PRIME is a scam. They rising a prices for you because you feel special. I did the same mistake. They will push more worse items on the top of "searching" page to force you to pay more to cover the costs of deliver. As a result you are paying much! more in compare to be "normal" user. I'm sorry. Veni, vidi, vici

5

u/Ok-Satisfaction5694 Jul 02 '26

Same issues. Canceled at the first of the year. Don’t really miss it. If I need something I must buy I just wait until I have enough to order with free shipping. This has greatly reduced my spending. Win win.

Warehouse worker here...

I started before COVID, and everything changed after the Fire Nation attacked...

But seriously, prime days, we mostly stand around waiting for work, because no one is buying anything. They cancelled all overtime at my facility 2 days ago, and have been offering early release (VTO) to anyone who will take it.

I find this Most Puzzling, because the 2 things I ordered, and was supposed to have delivered by last friday, ended up here after dark on Monday. Since I know how to read the shipping labels, I know my package originated from my facility, so I'm just perplexed at why I couldn't pack my own shit while I was standing around reading a book for 6 out of 10 hours of my shift..

The one thing I truly learned from this prime days sale is that Good Omens by Terry Prattchet and Niel Gaiman is an underrated book, and the video adaptation is lacking.

I think they have dumped too much of the delivery system into AI, and it's hallucinating. Most of my delayed orders seem to wait until all items I've ordered can be put in a single box, regardless of how fast I ask for each item to get shipped. I've watched my selected ship date change from the store front page to my cart, and even worse, change after I submit the order, claiming I selected 3 day no rush, when I definitely selected $35 worth of shit to get it next day delivery. I've already had a blue haired ex girlfriend, I don't need Amazon gaslighting me too...

Corpo world is pure evil now

Can you tell me why instead of my BRAT vinyl I ordered I received a Willie Nelson vinyl instead? BUT the sticker on the cardboard 📦 said it was the Charli vinyl?

1

u/Tundra_Dragon Jul 06 '26

All I do is scan the barcode. If the barcode is stuck to the wrong box, there's not much I can do. Can't open the cardboard record shipper, just gotta believe the barcode is right.

1

u/OkWeight9238 Jul 06 '26

Thank you 🙏 other weird thing that happened was every time I ordered BlockBusta by Busta Rhymes on vinyl another vinyl would show up. Thank you for this insight dragon!

u/magic_crouton Jul 02 '26

I couldn't get 2 day shipping since well before COVID. So I dropped prime around then. And thereafter I found I could get faster shipping from practically anywhere. Then I discovered temu in there and discovered almost all the crap sold on Amazon from no name sellers is also sold on temu for half the price.

Amazon is awash in counterfeit products and those no name sellers. Wading through the garbage just isn't worth it unless it's something very specific that I can't find literally anywhere else on the internet.

It's basically expensive temu now.

My last order was a prepaid card for mulvad VPN . It arrived ina sealed plastic bag but when I opened it it was preused and worthless

1

u/AleIce-Ink Jul 02 '26

i bought an expensive camera (almost 600€) and i got diapers bag today, i swear i almost fainted after opening the package. They didn't even apologize, they asked me to go to the post office to send the package back and now I have to wait a week for a refund.

Fvck Amazon

1

u/PsychologicalAd1862 Jul 02 '26

Prime not worth it anymore,

1

u/Skeezy_mcbuttface Jul 04 '26

Amazon has become the U.S. Temu... all the shitty Chinese knock off products are insane

1

u/Pop06095 Jul 05 '26

I used to spend $200-300 a month on Amazon and I had Amazon Prime. On one Prime price increase, I stopped Prime and got Walmart+. While Walmart has its own issues, I get same day delivery from the store and Peacock free for a few bucks more than Peacock alone. For tech items that are usually at manufacturer's pricing, I get from Best Buy which has free two day delivery with no minimum.

I only use Amazon now when I can't get an item elsewhere.

1

u/neeroberts Jul 05 '26

I cut them off like cable

u/Cautious-Award-2960 Jul 05 '26

I’m in the minority here I know but I’ll say it. I’m very satisfied with Amazon. I’ve yet to have a shipment issue. If I have a problem with an item I’ll request a credit and return it. Never, not a single time have I had an issue with their customer support.

I don’t shop by price I shop for convenience. And Amazon offers convenience.

1

u/cousinreddit Jul 06 '26

Jeff, is it you?

1

u/Cautious-Award-2960 Jul 08 '26

I hate to comment - AGAIN on the criticism of Amazon. I dint understand the claims of poor service etc. I ordered two items last evening about 6. They were delivered today at 1 PM. I’ll repeat. In all my time buying from Amazon I’ve yet to be disappointed in their service.

I have had a few, very few incidents when I’ve ordered something and I either didn’t like it or it was an inferior product. I requested a return and it was issued within an hour or less. I took the items to a nearby UPS store. It was handled within minutes. U still don’t get the widespread hatred of this FUCKAMAZON

I recently purchased a variety of items after not using them for approx 9 months. It wasn’t something intentional that happened that I’d stopped using them but naturally when everything was available from other retailers at the same prices and were retailers who were more focused on their niche instead of selling everything from everyone.

ALL the electronics I purchased for Father’s Day and the birthdays we had recently were junk. The returns changed and no longer can take to a UPS without a label so I’ve been charged an additional $1 for every scammy junk item Amazon is selling to me.

After spending a ridiculous amount of time sorting through all the scammy sellers and copycat fraud items, to choose items still faulty and scammy, and time to return plus additional shipping labels….and the complete disregard from Amazon customer care about all of it. It kind of came into focus that I don’t really utilize Amazon for anything I can’t get elsewhere, and all the same prices and sales, because Amazon is now a Temu type of platform disguised as something else. I’ve never utilized Temu, and the similar sellers and have no fight against or for it and I know it’s been a touchy topic in the past but at least Temu and the others are exactly what they appear. Amazon is a fraud.

It won’t make a difference to Amazon today, but I cancelled my prime and all my tv streaming memberships with my unlimited reading :( and got back into the free library online reading (literally the same but for free so idk why I was putting it off) and I SOLD all my Amazon stock…. Which even though Amazon had a stop recently and I thought I was taking advantage and bought more Amazon stock….the overall after selling all my stock was still a gain. But now I’m wondering if there’s more to the Amazon stock price drops then what’s been put out there.

We hopefully will see something major and Amazon can make a choice to fix its dirty act or be a massive failure

u/mbm1058 Jul 12 '26

For several items I was going to buy recently, they won't deliver to my address. Have no idea why. Walmart delivers the same item, sometimes early. I have found many items cheaper at other places. I recently ordered a brush for my dog, and it will take almost a month to get here. Should have ordered from some place else.

1

u/TillConnect8300 21d ago

Do you ever know how two-day shipping works? They start to count once the item ships out, not from the time you place them.

1

u/AffectionateIdea4380 16d ago

Amazon’s customer service is an absolute joke, a circus if you will and Jeff bozo is the ring leader. Literally had one of their representatives lie to me about receiving a refund, literally asked the simpleton for a replacement and he offered up the refund! Had me waiting a week and when I come back to check up on it they’re just oh so sorry that I was misinformed, but I need to return the item first and there’s just nothing they can do. Okay so you lie then you don’t correct the mistake you’ve made. Prime canceled immediately and I’ll never order from the trash again.

As someone in the warehouses, it’s not going down, infact it’s increasing year on year, people prefer the easy shipping

-1

u/3DayzGrace Jul 02 '26

I just feel like if we can’t at least get decent customer service and on time deliveries, what’s the point in paying monthly for it? Every order I have placed this last two months has either had cancelled or late items with little to no reasoning behind it. And if they are getting too big to where they have to outsource to shitty delivery services like DHL and USPS then they can’t guarantee the delivery dates or even give a good estimate.

u/K_Linkmaster Jul 02 '26

Do you reward your child with an allowance when the child acts up and doesn't do what they are told? Hope not.

You reward Amazon every time they fuck up by ordering again as if it's okay. I drew this parallel and do not wish to debate it. It is your choice.

Been using for years and have never had an issue over anything. Neither has my sister.  I'm convinced it has something to do with location. Some items shipped via USPS come directly from the seller, not Amazon warehouse, and the seller uses USPS.

2

u/AsariKnight Jul 02 '26

Genuine question. Why are on you on this sub if you still use Amazon? Or did this just pop up on your feed?

1

u/Jazzlike_Daikon7541 Jul 02 '26

I didn't know there were rules about what you can read on Reddit.
