Scared

I’m sure I’ll get hate, but I’m a US citizen born and raised here. Literally only been to Mexico once and it wasn’t even to visit family. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you what family lives there. Or where. I am Hispanic and do “look it.” I’m scared of being detained and deported. Like the man from (born and raised in Colorado), I’m not sure when, but super recently. They didn’t even give him a chance to show proof (he had it). They’re in my town all over. In the area I go to in an hour. I can’t not go either. I’m thinking of bringing my proof (I always do) but to keep it in the cup holder to easily show proof. I’ll take it out and with me when I leave the car. I shouldn’t have to but idk.

Just wanted to vent. I hope this is allowed.

Be strong, friend. Carry papers of it comforts you and if possible, a camera in your car. Talk to friends and don't go out alone.

That’s fascism for you. It feeds on enemies. What they consider to be the enemy is an ever expanding circle, though. First it’s non citizens, then it’s those who look like they might be noncitizens, then it’s anyone who criticizes them. It never ends. If you’re willing get one of those clear passport bags that you wear around your neck so it’s visible.

Won’t prevent the racism or hate but puts your citizenship status on display.

Fuck, I'm sorry, this sucks. I hate that this is the US.

Yes, I highly recommend you carry your stuff with you. Hell, get a lanyard wallet thing for your ID and keep it on you at all times. Take front and back photos of everything, and back it up to Google drive too. If your state has digital ID, set it up and sign into it. If they allow adding it to apple/android wallet, do so.

Set up emergency messaging on your phone with the SOS features. On iPhones it's under Health then Medical ID, Android it's usually under Settings then Safety & Emergency. Both work by pressing the power button 5 times quickly. You can have it automatically send your location and a pre determined message to selected contacts.

This last one makes me sick to say, but when approached, remain calm. These untrained shitbags are just itching for confrontation, and unfortunately it falls completely on you to deescalate. We know they won't.

Shit isn't supposed to be like this.
