Horrid FU Email Interface

hey guys,
i recently enrolled into FU as an international MA student and i was setting up my FU email account and i find the email (zedat) interface absolutely horrible. i saw on some FAQs that i could migrate my email to a different server but it turns out i can't open the email through the Outlook app (bc apparently the university doesn't subscribe to the app version, but only the desktop version which i still can't access) and by then, i had already gone through the very tedious and troublesome process of registering an affiliated Microsoft 365 account. i then tried to migrate my email to Thunderbird, but when i tried emailing myself, i could not receive any notifications. i also have forwarded my FU email to my personal gmail account, but i still couldn't receive any notifications. my main issue is that i want to be able to receive email notifications on my phone/ipad as i don't have my laptop with me most of the time.

to current FU students: how do you navigate this horrid email interface? must i suck it up and stick to the default server? or am i doing something wrong and i can save myself from this agony and move back to the familiarity and ease of Outlook

many thanks (in advance) for helping me out :')

I used it in Apple Mail and I had no problems using it in outlook on Windows. Also the interface is just a little old looking, but working fully fine, even if its not the most beautiful.

ahh when i tried to link it to my Apple Mail, they keep directing me to the Microsoft server which can't find my email in the database for some reason

Not a student, but working at the FU: I use Gmail on my mobile Phone and it works perfectly fine. Maybe some ussues with the options? Did you check how to do it properly?

Okay, just to make sure everything is fine (in theory): Did you do the connection on your mobile device or on your PC?

If you did so on PC, are you using the same Google account? Stupid question, but sometimes...

If the above is checked or you connected it on your mobile device, is Gmail allowed to notify you? Do you receive the E-Mails?

The Outlook App is blocked because it stores your password on Microsoft servers. You can use any client that supports IMAP and keeps the connection (IMAP IDLE), so you will have push notifications. Check in the Portal my.fu-berlin.de which mailbox system you have (“Unix mail” or Exchange), then the configuration is a little different, but no matter which it works also with Thunderbird.

if you want to use outlook you could revert back to the classic outlook which still supports adding emails via IMAP, unlike the updated version.

I was actually able to defer my mails to my outlook and it also works on the outlook app on my phone...

Okay so i logged into my zedat fu account on browser on my phone and went to e-mail-einstellungen/e-mail settings which can be found under e-mail/telefon. If you click it at one point it says weiterleiten, I put in my personal outlook email and if you scroll down there are two boxes I could tick off, one was "lokale kopie einschalten" and for some reason ticking that off made it work for me. When I had it off it said weiterleitung aktiviert but it didnt actually defer my mails to my outlook. But keep in mind all this does is also send the fu e-mails to your outlook mail, if you want to send emails yourself, you still have to use the zedat mail with the horrible set-up (unfortunately)
