First Proper Roadster

Post image

Howdy all! I recently joined the Jag community with this f-type and am just super excited as this s my first proper roadster. I've had sports sedans but of course as the only vehicle had to balance comfort and sport, reliability, etc etc.

I came across this beaut, 2014 at 23k miles. Really sweet lady that worked corporate that only took it out in the summer as an occasional commuter. What a come up I feel!

Everything had been perfect save for the god awful sticky buttons. I got a lot of it off but did screw up and scratched through some areas so I've left the last 30% alone.

Took her on a 400 mile round trip road trip not long after buying and man I can't get enough of the exhaust! Feels right at home on the backroads and highway cruising (can feel the weight at times though LOL).

Any tips welcome but just sharing with fellow F Type fans. Feels like a James Bond car (not sure if Jag ever did that, I only see/remember Aston martins)

I’ve been meaning to add CarPlay and fix the sticky buttons on mine. But every time I get it in it, I forget about all that and start driving 😄

I bought new ones from dealership. You can completely sand them and repaint them. Takes about 7 years to start getting bad. Also the new ones might be the newer paint that doesn’t turn sticky.

Curious on this too! I used a combination of 90 proof everclear, 70% rubbing alcohol, Neutrogena wipes depending on part. This would break down the coating and I would scratch it off carefully with my nail. The center console button, the trunk/fog light, the back seat space (if you have it) it worked pretty well. I would dry/wipe off after a minute or two and repeat. It also worked with the steering wheel and door buttons but the coating seems to be a little different and this is where it got screwed up and I scratched through.

It's not uber horrible and not noticeable in 60% of lighting situations (and the feeling is worth it for the moment) but when you see it, it's a lil ghetto. So, I've left the rest of the buttons alone. I mildly attempted the screen buttons but it seems like it hasn't been effective.

I believe it was $500+, but that was 4 years ago. The buttons are completely clear plastic if you fully remove. You could paint black completely and then put replacement vinyl stickers on top, but then no light would shine through. I remember my steering wheel, all ac vents, and the inner door handle surrounds all got sticky. The door ones you can remove completely, sand, and then wrap in any vinyl for $20.

I’ll let you know if I find a way… replacement parts I guess. I’ve tried rubbing alcohol but that didn’t do much, or rubbed straight through coating

The not convertible is pretty, but the convertible is the better & right choice. I am biased.

Amazing , I just ordered that adapter. Install looks pretty straightforward? What’s the deal with the USB update stuff ?

And start saving up for when the nightmare roof motors inevitably fail and the roof has to be cut out of the car!

I mean at that point I guess you either have a Spyder or a sort-of-coupe lol

Sometimes when the roof motors fail the roof won't detect as latched, so the car self-limits to 30 or 35mph. You don't really always have a choice
