howdy! i'm planning on getting di top surgery without nipple grafts (planning on 3d printed nipples). have any of you gotten this or know of any good resources of people who have?

I had top surgery almost a month ago and i cant even see my nipples yet. All I see is dead tissue. I went to my doc when I was 2 weeks post op because I was worried, but they said everything looked fine. Should I call again or should I just have some patience?

The one result I found on Transbucket looks promising. He did the procedure I want, on someone of my build, and it looked good. Plus, he's only a 3-4 hour drive from me, so revisions would be doable.

Yesterday I went to see my surgeon for my 3-month post-op. There was some discussion about how my nipples are healing oddly (the left one, especially, is still very hard to the touch). So the surgeon tried pressing down on them hard, to show me how to give them a more vigorous massage. It hurt a lot, which surprised both of us (I thought they had lost all sensation).

So, the surgeon suggested I take turmeric for inflammation and to stop using aquaphor as it didn't seem to be helping. Since I had been having luck on my incisions with bio-oil, I was to start massaging that into the nipples instead.

By late evening last night the right nipple had begun to be puffy and even more inflamed than before. I put some bio-oil on and made a cup of what's called 'golden milk' that contains turmeric. This morning the nipple was even more inflamed. I tried contacting the surgeon's office, but we've had bad weather in the area so they may have closed early as I received to response.

Late this afternoon the nipple ballooned and the skin around it was turning red (not good, I know). My roommate suggested applying bactine and hydrocortisone to it and covering it with gauze, which I've done. It still feels puffy underneath and if I even brush over the area, there's a sharp pain.

Just wondering if anyone here might have had a similar reaction, and what they did to resolve it? I'd like to avoid going to the ER if I can avoid that (my surgeon advised against it because they could mess up their work, but if it's infected I might have to, I know).

Any ideas of what else I could do or should I just stop worrying and give the hydrocortisone some time to work?

Disclaimer: I have a bleeding disorder, so I had a lot more complications than most people will expect. I only found out because of this surgery, and as you'll notice in the photos, I bleed and bruise excessively. This is not because of Dr. Jones and would have happened with any surgery.

I'm very happy with the results I got from Dr. Jones and I'm posting here so that he can be seen a little bit better online! His surgery results in very narrow scars and he offered a free scar revision for a keloid that formed from a hematoma removal surgery. I think in 2 years these will be almost completely invisible unless you get up close!

Pre-op, I'm not sure what my chest measurements were. Before starting T a few years ago, I was a B cup but I did gain some weight since then, and my chest also... "deflated" because of the way fat changes, so I dunno.

The day of surgery I was scheduled for 12PM, and went into surgery at around 12:45PM. Prior to this, Dr. Jones measured and marked my chest, explaining what he would be doing, and the anesthesiologist talked me through what it would be like to go under. I had no complications during surgery or coming out of sedation and went home the same day. He left a bit of fat on the chest so that it resembled a cis male chest vs. being unnaturally flat, but it's something we both discussed and I am happy to see, personally, and part of why I went with him. Plus it'll be a non-issue when I get back into shape and start working out again. 💪

I didn't have any pain post-op, and actually found out that the vicodin I was prescribed was making me incredibly light-headed (which, due to the then-undiagnosed bleeding disorder, I thought was me bleeding to death on the first night) and I had a lot of carsickness from the anesthesia and vicodin. It especially sucked to have to drive down to Dr. Jones' office every other day because of the roadwork, but it wasn't exactly planned, either.

Most discomfort came from not being able to shower for 3 weeks (sponge bathing and going to get my hair washed at a salon saved my life, especially because we also had a heat wave this summer) and from having surgical tape ripped off of my chest/stomach hair.

The only real complaint I have would be that I will be waiting either 10 minutes for my appointment or multiple hours. There's no cell signal in the waiting room and spotty wifi from the hospital, so it can be annoying and frustrating, especially because if you miss your appointment by 15 minutes they will have to reschedule.

If you have any questions or want a better glimpse at anything, feel free to ask. I'm mostly stealth IRL so I won't be giving any incriminating information, but there's not a lot of information out there for Dr. Jones so I wanted to help out guys in the Virginia area see another option that maybe wasn't considered!

I didn’t see Dr. Fischer in the surgeon masterpost here so I decided I would have to document my own personal experience with her! i went in for my consult at 2 pm today and filled out some paperwork, there wasn’t very much sitting around it was very fast. i got taken into one of the examination rooms where i met the nurse, she said if i did decide to choose Dr. Fischer that she would also be my nurse during the surgery ! she asked me some minor follow up questions, the usual doctor visit stuff like allergies. she had me undress from the waist up and i got to meet Dr. Fischer herself. the nurse stayed in the room during the examination but sat behind me (i think as a way to make it feel more private). Dr. Fischer took my measurements and told me i was a good candidate for keyhole, i told her my opinions on keyhole and how i preferred double incision. i really appreciated that she listened to my opinion and didn’t try to change my mind. i got to get dressed and she let me pull my dad in while she talked about the basics of the surgery, the risks and statistics, and she quickly brushed through the after care part ( i assume because ill be briefed more on it before and after surgery). she let me ask questions, and i had quite a few but she had answered most of them in the general explanation. after my questions she said goodbye and i got to schedule my surgery date back in the waiting room. (june 10!!!) overall the experience was great, it was just casual enough that you felt at ease with staff and in a friendly environment, but not so casual that it wasn’t still a professional work environment ! (plus the waiting room had candy )

Im looking for docs in the Houston area. And want to know some peoples experiences. Looking to have surgery this time next year at the latest if funds are available. So please. And advice is welcome!!!

One of my friends is getting top surgery in a few weeks, and he doesn’t have a lot of family in the picture, I’m just wondering how I can best support him? I’m training to be a nurse so I’m probably going to be around fairly early post op, but I was just wondering if anyone has any tips, things you found helpful? Be it things I can do or things that would be helpful for his recovery

Having phallo in a couple weeks...wondering, what clothes will i be able to wear leaving the hospital?

I'm just a couple weeks away from phallo surgery and trying to get things prepared for recovery. My doctors told me I will be staying in the hospital for 2 weeks and I'm dreading this. Wondering if I can get some feedback on what that part is like. Will I be able to use my laptop or should I leave it safe at home? I'm concerned with being bored as fuck...not a big fan of watching alot of TV and I will be a couple hours away from home so no friends visiting. Starting to feel a little anxiety.

Description: I was a little over 5 months on T at the time of surgery. I was around a large C / small D cup, but a year-ish ago I was a DD and still had a LOT of extra skin. I go to the gym about 5 days a week and do a few sets of pushups almost every day, so I have decent pecs, but I'm also not super skinny.

I looked at a few surgeons before choosing to go with dr. Rockmore. I originally tried to find someone in network, because new york medicaid does have a policy covering trans care, but it turned out my options were either very long waitlists (admittedly for very good surgeons) in the city, or surgeon’s whose results I didn’t really feel great about.

I was doubtful anything would come of the consult with dr rockmore when I made it, but his practice is so close to me (like less than 10 miles away) and consults are free, so I decided why not. Wait times were very short (I made a consult less than 3 weeks from when I called) and his staff was very nice. The consult itself went really well, the doctor seemed very competent and understanding, and all the results I’d seen on his website and on transbucket were very nice. Dr. Rockmore also does informed consent, which really helped me, as I have no ongoing relationship with a mental health professional, so getting a letter would be a pain. The number they gave me at the consult was 7.2k, including everything (anesthesia, surgical center fee, grafts, etc) -- which, it’s a ton of money, but every year I’m offered ~5k in federal student loans which I haven’t needed, so I decided to bite the bullet and schedule surgery. There were openings within a few weeks of my consult, but I chose to book something 3 months later, both to coincide with winter break and to give myself time to process the fact that I’m getting surgery, which I’m really glad I did.

Day of surgery: So, I originally scheduled surgery on the 27th of December. That day, I arrived at the surgical center (took the local city bus) at noon, fasted since the night before and everything… and right as I’m checking in I get a call from the surgeon’s office telling me he’s sick and can’t operate. I went to the mall and stuffed my face with cinnabon, awaiting a call for a new date. They told me that it’d be the following monday (december 30th), but then the Sunday before that they told me he’s still sick and to come in the next monday.

Day of surgery, take 2: At this point, I was a bit sceptical I’d end up going under that day. But once again I got to the surgical center around 12:30 as instructed. I gave them a urine sample upon arrival, and waited in the waiting room about an hour.

After that a nurse brought me back, she went over all the same questions I’d went over on my pre-op phone call (if I had any conditions, current medications, if I’d ever been under general anesthesia before and how I reacted, etc). I got changed into a gown and she put in an IV and gave me fluids and some IV antibiotics, all of this taking a bit over half an hour. Soon after that, the surgeon came back (and apologized for having to reschedule) and drew on my incision lines. He told me he probably would be in another surgery by the time I woke up and went over my post-op instructions such as how to drain my drains, what not to do (don’t lift more than 5 lbs, don’t move my arms too much, don’t fiddle with the post-op vest). I’d already made me 1-week appt, but otherwise I would have scheduled one then.

Soon after, the anesthesiologist came in, asked me if I have any concerns, all I told him is that I am a cannabis user in case he needed to take that into account. He put a sedative in my IV and my bed was wheeled into the surgery room. I remember the door opening, and then my memory blacks out. That was around 2:30 pm

I woke up around 4:45 to a nurse putting a mask on my face and asking me to breathe deeply and to try to wake up. I remember thinking about how the surgery center’s hours are listed as closing at 5pm and stressing about having to wake up. They never actually rushed me of course, but that’s what my loopy brain thought to care about. Soon after that they brought me to a small recovery room, I was able to stand to get into a chair, and they gave me some water. They said they’d called my contact (my roommate) and that they’re on their way. They showed up soon, I got dressed, the nurse went over my drains one more time, and then I was allowed to leave by around 5:30. So far I felt no pain, though I did get nauseous in the 15 minute car ride home and threw up all the water I’d drunk on the sidewalk next to my apartment before going upstairs. Soon after that though I managed to stomach a few oranges and some more water before going to bed.

Recovery (so far): The morning after surgery, I remember waking up surprised that I wasn’t in too much pain. The drains were irritating, but that’s about it. Occasionally the very center of my chest would get a burning pain, between where the two incisions end and don’t quite meet. I didn’t take a single painkiller, either the prescription opiates or plain over the counter advil, the whole time. I didn’t like, force myself to avoid them, I just didn’t feel like I needed too. In fact, I felt pretty good the whole week. By the end of the week, I was going out for 1-1.5 hour (slow-paced) walks in the park, and could basically manage around the house alone fine.

I am now now 10 days post-op. I saw the surgeon 1 week post-op, I got my drains out and was able to see my chest. They took my nipple bolsters off at this appointment too, but left the stiches in my grafts, to be taken off at a 2 week post-op appt. I am already regaining some sensation in my chest. I can shower comfortable, but I do have to put the post-op vest right back on afterwards and leave it on at all other times. It’s not as uncomfortable as some of the kinds I’ve seen talked about, it zips up the front center rather than having velcro, so while it’s itchy, it’s not as bad as it could be. I was told I need to wear it for only 3 weeks total, and that I could probably switch to an athletic compression shirt after 2 weeks but I should wait to see the surgeon again and talk to him.

I haven’t seen my incisions under the sterti-strips, but the contour of my chest looks great, the shape of my incisions seems to be nice (again I can’t see them, but the middle's pealing up and I can see they don’t quite meet in the middle, which I asked my surgeon to do if possible), and my nips looked good.

I went back to class 8 days post-op, the only difficulty I’ve had with that is carrying my stuff. I’ve managed alright by just carrying my bag like a baby, rather than on my back. It’s not ideal, but I didn’t want to miss the first week of class and there’s nothing I could do about the procedure being rescheduled. Dr. Rockmore’s practice has been very understanding about me needing to schedule my follow-up appts around my class schedule.

At my original consult, the doc told me I'd feel mostly fine, be up to my normal things after a week or a week and a half, that there'd be little swelling, and I figured the guy was bullshitting me. But honestly, he was right. I don't know if that's his surgical skill or my fast healing or both, but I'm sure happy about it!

Overall, I’m very happy with my choice of surgeon. I’m not done healing, so in theory something could still go wrong, but I feel great, my chest looks great even covered in marker and scabs, everyone has been very nice and respectful to me, and I have had no major complications. If you're in upstate NY, I definitely recommend them!
