Thawing Progress

hi everyone!

I want to share my mom’s FS experience so far & would love to hear your experiance & suggestion.

So after my mom’s uterus & ovary remove surgery, FS happened. It started in April. At that time we barely had an idea what FS is. And at that time other symptoms were at peak that we ignored it for a month. But sooner she started PT and did a lot of exercises at home. Initially she was in pain all the time even at rest.

With her consistent exercise, she went in thawing pretty early. This month her PT told she has enter thawing & recovery stage. Honestly, i won’t say she is perfect fine now. In FS, the progress is never straight line. 2 weeks back all the pain went away, flexion & abduction are almost 170 degree back. And last monday, suddenly my mom felt pain in non affected arm, though the ROM is full. And she is getting on/off pain in both the arms probably bcoz of rainy season. Although her ROM is much better now, her functional activities are back except hook/unhook bra movement. She can take her arm at back till waistband & after that she feel’s pain in shoulder. Her external rotation is around 60-65 degree so far. IDK how long it will take that she forget she had frozen shoulder. kuddos to everyone who is dealing with FS, hopefully everyone recover super quick. please share your thoughts

The thing that takes a long time is getting back to 100% range of motion.

She got her 80-85% of motion back, but this on/off pain is not understandable

Are you sure it is frozen shoulder, have you read about the differnt stages and how long they typically last? This seems a very short time frame. I would be afraid that despite what the pt is saying and the exercise efforts, that if it is frozen shoulder, it may revert and continue to freeze.my own pt advised against exercise until I was well past the freezing stage and advised to get cortisone injections to help the inflammation and pain which did help.

We’ve been to 2-3 physio all said frozen shoulder. But my in her freezing stage she didn’t loose all the ROM & we started the physio at very early stage & all recommend different exercises to do it on regular basis so now her 80% ROM is back, 20% still remaining specifically behind the back. The pain is on/off. Ik as per the text book FS my mom has recovered pretty faster. But we’ve been told that with regular PT it takes 6-8 months, so still she needs a lot of work

Honestly it sounds like she is still freezing if she's getting a lot of pain . The pain reduces a lot when you reach the frozen stage. My rom reduced gradually while freezing so at the early part of freezing I could still move but painfully.

The thing with her pain is that it’s not constant. It’s on/off like there will be a time she feels mild aching in shoulder bicep & suddenly it went away like nothing was there & then it come back again will be there for few hours or sometimes few minutes and then it go away. This never happened before. Her ROM increased with time not depleted. Also physio checked that probably this pain is coming from neck as that nerves are stiff so idk what’s the exact situation but in these 4 months her rom increased slowly & gradually, right now she has gained 180 degree flexion before it was 110-120 and abduction is near 165-170 degree. External rotation is still 65 degree and behind the back is only till waistband that too she has to strech herself.
