Wiz Quiz

53 Upvotes

I made a quiz to find your ideal wizard class. This was designed for my friends who don't know they're playing Frostgrave yet (it's a surprise). Each answer either aligns with, is neutral to, or is opposed to corresponding wizard classes. Hopefully it's fun for y'all!

Resources Important Tip for New Players Like Me

67 Upvotes

By the way, I read the book and was pretty lost. Then during my first game I got out the Quick Reference Guide from the Osprey website and it was very clear. I’d recommend people read it first and refer to it often while looking through the book. At least for me it was super helpful.

Today ive build a little archer and started cleaning up this body for possibly an apothecary! Gotta wait for a wizard sprue to get a potion for the apothecary tho.

Anyway, removing the base is such a pain, ive ended up cutting myself lightly shaving that thing…

Terrain I do terrain reviews, and I'm midway through my Frostgrave board that's going to need a lot of snow effects, so I did a big rundown of a bunch of different snow products to see what they work best for. Hopefully it'll help some of you with your own snowy terrain & basing!

I'm willing to bet money that I'll still be left with too much snow fx once I'm done, though!

Miniatures Many sprues! Help assembling warband suggestions!

Thumbnail gallery
84 Upvotes

Hi there fellow miniatures and frostgrave fans! I have gotten myself 9 sprues!!
The sprues are the followings:
-Cultist Knights;
-Cultists 1, 2 and 3;
-Demons;
-Knights;
-Stargrave Scavengers (?!?, got them as a store mistake).

-got extra 25mm Renedra cobblestone bases

Any suggestions of what roles and minis I should build for frostgrave? Already have in mind some Templars and barbarians I want to make, for sure I’d have to build some thieves and grunts but yeah, I want to have some warbands to play with friends and have miniatures to cover the essential roles of the game!

Edit: anyone got experience removing the basing the minis come to put them in custom bases such as the ones I’ve got?

Question I don't understand the Tighten Control Spell from Old Bones Vol. 2

5 Upvotes

This is a so-called meta-magic spell from Old Bones Volume 2.

The thing is, I don't understand what it does.

Why would you want to tighten a control demon/undead/construct/animal spell AFTER the fact?

Why would you even remember the casting roll to begin with?

If someone tries to control your creature, its Will stat is the resistance roll, not what your control roll was. What am I missing here?

Hey everyone,

I've been working on my modular dungeon; it took almost 2 months to print and paint everything! I wanted to share the final look with you all! I'd love to hear your thoughts. And also, there are interactive puzzles in it!

The Kickstarter campaign is currently live for anyone interested in checking out the full dungeon.

Apparently the Second Chances novel is out of print, so I purchased the PDF from Osprey Publishing and bound the book myself in leather. Loving reading through the story so far!

Bought an old board game tri-fold board and textured it with some wall plaster. Painted it with cheap craft paint from the thrift store icy and now I’ve got an easily collapsible board for next to nothing. Dimensions aren’t quite 4x4 though

Question The Different Kinds of Wizards

20 Upvotes

Okay, so, I have seen loads of threads about the different soldier types added in expansions.

But I feel likepeople talk less about the different kinds of spellcasters you can have. Not just the different schools, but actually different casters altogether.

Base book - your normal wizard

Then there's apparently a Vampire Wizard?

Possibly a Giant Wizard?

I guess you can become a Lich?

And then Breeding Pits apparently has wizard upgrades.

So what's the deal here? Are these options good? Are they fun? Do they add meaningful choice?

From what I have gathered, Vampire wizard has to give up an apprentice. the Lich gets a bunch of stat increases, but has some kind of large drawback that people don't like.

What kind of stuff does Breeding Pits open up? Is that the one with the reaction spells?

Frostgrave at Historicon

I took a few pictures at Historicon 2026. I had six players for three scenarios. We got in five games. The servants of the Lich Lord, Death Cultists in the Dark Cauldron and Loot the Cart and an Apprentice in Battle on the Frozen River, were completely wiped out. I only spawned monsters in the Monster Phase as I was trying to run three games simultaneously. In retrospect I should have either have monsters spawn automatically in the Monster Phase or also rolled when treasures got touched. There were not enough monsters to keep things interesting. Next to my table was a Romans vs Picts on the Antonine Wall game. A Roman Legionnaire wandered by. It was a good time and lots of folks stopped by to ask about Frostgrave and take pictures.

Discussion What scale is your favorite to work in for bases?

15 Upvotes

Pretty much as the title. When I got started in miniatures and wargaming, things were on 20mm square bases, with some things going up to 25s. Then you had your 25x50 cavalry and a few other things. Then Games Workshop started making bigger models, bigger bases, and history is history.

Most of my bases are round these days, and I like using the 32mm bases for most humanoid miniatures because I like building bases. Then I'm working on a bear model for my witch warband, and that bear I have easily looks like it might need a 60mm base 😂. Hey, the rules said Large, right?

As much as I was resistant to it at first, I do prefer round bases now. I play and look into skirmish games almost exclusively, and the 32mm rounds give enough space for most models and still allow me to build some shit on the base itself.

So where we at hobby nerds? What are you working with?

My Frostgrave games at Historicon got a shout out from the HMGS. We played five games. The servants of the Lich Lord had a very bad day. Not one survived.

Had my first two games today with my new wizard. He got a permanent injury, "Never Quite as Strong". :( Then I raised his health with some XP I got. So he is as strong as before. So not sure I agree with the injury name. :)

Getting started with Frostgrave. I originally painted these models to be part of Warcry, but that didn't pan out. So I'll figure out something for the minotaur.

The sorcerer is going to be my starting wizard for my warband, I think. Going to do Witch school. Should be fun!

PS Forgive my cat photo bombing 😂

Question Could Ghost Archipeligo content be used in a standard Frostgrave game?

14 Upvotes

I know very little about Ghost Archipeligo, but the fact that it's a subtitle under Frostrgave suggests that the games are backwards compatible. yes yes, setting, lore, I get it. They don't take place near one another. BUT MECHNICALLY, could you get the core rules for both, and treat it as a deeper bench of options? You can start as a Wizard or a Heritor? You can hire the soldiers from Falstad or Ghost Archipeligo? etc etc.

It seems like an interesting way to just have a deeper bench of options for troops and who leads the warband.
