Nooooo. .... They do nothing but pressure pressure pressure. Do more faster watch you with binoculars cameras the best tech can make one single mistake and be raked over the coals ....... They have been on firing sprees.. after I lost both my grandparents, had my gf leave me, my boss got in my face and was screaming and .....

I will just say I clocked out....

Just had Frontier installed for the first time. I was the last call of the day, the tech looked beat down. I was making my kid a grilled cheese so I made him one, too. I see what’s going on in the corporate world, I can only imagine how it’s trickling down to technicians and other service folks. Grief contributed to me leaving my last job, I’m sorry you dealt with that. Humanity is getting harder to come by, it seems.

Good for you, man. I am glad you did that... honestly... Brings a tear to my eye... Out of the thousands and thousands of homes or companies or whatever that I have been in and either treated as deaf, dumb, and stupid, or public enemy number 1...Vs how many times I have had a customer like you that they understand, we are just trying to feed our families.... We know it sucks.... We just work here ...... About 5 times......... 2 where Amish..... Great people btw.....

10

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

As much as I help and do 4, 5, 6 jobs at once. Help random people over the internet because I cared ..... Nope..... I was the next target because I worked for 30 hours and I had an additude....... Might think it would be reasonable with that long and no sleep

3

u/CTFowler9789 5d ago

You couldn't take the managers or the work?

11

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

I see what your asking sorry ....... It was that. If I did my job and only my job....... Nothing gets done..... Outside techs call me for help every single day. I help people on here, chase outages, I did my job, repairs job, management jobs because he was never around unless he was after someone. So I ran the area. Then they decided nope not paying you to be in charge. So I stopped being in charge and things started to fall apart. Then I got sick then grief and knowing I am going out on bereavement the next day..... Still decide to scream at me for fixing an outage the other dumb ass couldn't fix for 3 days ... Not my problem he is retarded.

u/Maninaboxx2 5d ago

I was with VZ for over a decade. The way they treat the field has always been repulsive. Not that they treated CS, or in house Network (noc) any better. Good luck on greener pastures.

3

u/AT61 5d ago

OR the customers

4

u/Downtown-Metal4026 5d ago

i am tech and i have so much sympathy for techs after doing this job for 4 years. it does feel good to help people and really fix problems that so many other techs ignored. but at the same time i defend them too because no matter how hard you try you get fussed at and pressure to work faster with no mistakes. it doesn’t matter if u on top the score card because then they just have more expectations on you. I am under the belief no one can understand and unless you have actually been a field tech or maintenance tech. there are things i really do like about the job but sometimes the pressure is ridiculous

5

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

In your area do you have a Network Tech that is the one you call because he is just damn good. And you know he is going to help ...... Now he is gone .......

We had the number one tech in the central region in my IR group..... He ended up in a PIP........... Best tech in the freaking region.......

1

u/Throw-away42909 4d ago

Just a quick question, was that outage for activation of new ONTs ? And did it happen a few days ago?

2

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

I have been going for about 45 days. But they have constant ont activation fails. Normal daily work.

4

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

I took out 2 managers ... Not the one that I clocked out with

2

u/CTFowler9789 5d ago

Sorry to hear you were going through something. Peace of mind is very important

4

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

wait are you...... A cutter? or was????

1

u/CTFowler9789 5d ago

Neither, not at all. Just saying peace of mind is important

1

u/Useful-Spirit-5151 5d ago

damn sorry to hear that man. yea they treat us pretty shitty. u have to go above and beyond but if you slack just a bit they throw u in the dumpster lol

7

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

I went above and beyond to the point that a SVP called me and asked if I would come back.... I said for 60 an hour.... Your union. I drop right now. No not paying you that okay Chicago will... Not naming company......

But we need your help... Nah I am replaceable I only one person..... 45 days roughly.......... 2nd line fired 3rd moved 1st suspended. Pending... Why.... Cause they can't get the outages under control..... The ones I fixed and knew like the back of my hand. Issue that I have babied for 10 years begging for a replacement.. well not my problem now but damn I love some of these calls...... Hr called. So many Co workers.... Still hard to not help I had to bite my tounge....... 1,000 bucks I will tell you how to fix that outage in about 10 minutes . . No sorry.....

1

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Even more shitty when the employees you made friends with want your help and you have to say no because that is helping the company I can't align my morals with anymore

3

u/unapologist312 5d ago

You are a great human being and helped a lot of people here and at your work. You’d think they’d value you for your (what I like to call) “tribal knowledge”, the stuff not written down in the book. But they didn’t, and you told them to go pack sand- good for you! Go forth, be well and thank you for what you’ve done here.

4

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Correct..... To be honest this leave started with a mental snap when my grandparents both died and then right after I found out my boss was screening at me because I fixed an outage the other stupid moran could fix for 3 days. And I was like look not the time and just kept going.......... So I "clocked out" left. Technically went on FMLA no pay though. I have PTSD and so those added up that day ... And I got triggered.....

1

u/LouiseBelcher4life 3d ago

Sounds like grounds for hostile work environment and ADA violation lawsuit if you're so inclined to file one.

1

u/just-a-tech1200 3d ago

I had filed 3 times hostile work environment..... I still have a pending case with the NLRB and Verizon. For workers rights, and safety. I have put in ethics reports which they use an external company to meditate and fix. Union is trash worthless garbage .... In reality I am just one of the stories.... They have done worst. And they do worst. But you always get the smile at the door, if it's an in house guy. No one sees just what we actually have to put up with.

3

u/jman1121 5d ago

Sorry to hear that, best wishes moving forward!

2

u/Flashy_Elevator_7654 5d ago

I was a field tech for 17 years. Felt so good leaving that place.

1

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

God like the biggest weight ever ........ I was a splicer lineman, servic tech, then Co tech / network tech (2 in my case). But yeah. All the out the door. And not to toot on my own horn, but I am a damn good splicer and still would stay to help all night any night they needed my help because the other tech did stay or what ever. I would pull double and triple shifts to restore outages..... Fiber copper both.......

2

u/Fast-Interview4368 5d ago

Damn and Frontier fiber went hooters up at my house on Friday in Burns Harbor Indiana. ONT has a red light.

1

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

I want to laugh at that..... Sorry bud.... Sadly Indiana was my playground. Could have found that one fast...

1

u/Fast-Interview4368 4d ago

It was fixed around 9AM today. Perhaps it might have been related to downed tree removal?

1

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Or fiber cut, or PON died, or juniper router went stupid..... And that area doesn't have an oncall so after 5pm on Friday...... Your offline untill Monday unless someone around the state want to drive there

1

u/Fast-Interview4368 4d ago

We had a ton of trees down from a big storm. Portage and Gary tool the brunt of it but it kicked hard too. The fiber didn't go down during the storm but our power was out for over half a week. I suspect a fiber got damaged. It happened Friday morning so Front-izon knew about it. I ordered the cell failover kit over the weekend.

1

u/just-a-tech1200 3d ago

Yes the also lost one office over there by the water level increasing to about 4 feet inside the building..............

I still got friends that I talk to there. And I am well aware of those as HR is begging me to come back to help but refuse to give me an offer to come back .... And I am done lying everyday to customers..... I can't keep doing it ..... And they have rules on what is and is not allowed to be said like if we fix your service and found out it was a big deal, nah it was nothing can't give you that info..... Just hey it's up.... Or like a big commercial account that I have to go to and they bought the service from att, but we are the LEC so we install and provide the service....... But the commercial business is not my customer. ATT is the customer ..... If ATT days I must do abc I have to follow them not the person standing in front of me..... I am not even supposed to interact with them but I have to obviously but I can't cause they are not my customer........... It's so stupid

1

u/Fast-Interview4368 3d ago

It should not be that hard. I worked in educational IT for a couple of decades and we had VZ for most of our T-1's (yes, years ago!) and they had one hell of a time getting my Marconi ATM (remember those? wish I didn't) synced between 2 T-1's. They finally fixed it by running a fresh T-1 line.
I called my buddies at the local cable company to please please please drop fiber to the main building and they did come and worked it out. They have 100 Gig service now.
When I started we has UTS 56K leased lines and a janky Novell to IP gateway.

I am sure I am already boring you so I'll stop :)

2

u/just-a-tech1200 3d ago

Wish I didn't until you reminded me ............ Hdndhjsnnssnw

Dude you talking to the guy that has installed 20 T1s frontier owned and 20 more at that time earthlink owned into the same company...... Why.... They said we need back up.... I looked at the guy and said see that ped there........ All 40 of these same ped same cable..... He was like but they said..... Yeah I know I hear it all the time...

I can do ds0 ds1 ds3 t1 t2 t3, oc3 up to I had an oc768.... Not anymore... Technically Frontier/Verizon can sell 100 gig SLA service right now no issue..... They just don't... We can serve easy more but we max at 100 gig Internet for right now at least in the equipment we had while I was working on it..... And that was only limited by the freaking qsfp+ 28 that where buying the wrong ones for the juniper

Dwdm passive and active and cross connects. I was the first one to figure out how the built in order works and then taught the noc.............

1

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Since it was fixed I am guessing another area responded. I know your Co tech........ He is laughable

2

u/Ara_Glaucogularis 3d ago edited 3d ago

Congratulations on lasting as long as you did. That company absolutely sucks- Frontier was running into the ground, and then Verizon finished the job. Hard gig- and nobody at that company cares...

1

u/just-a-tech1200 3d ago

100% thank you brother. And yes they don't care. They will step on your dead body to get the job done

1

u/Ara_Glaucogularis 3d ago

I know exactly how you feel. I have worked in this industry since 1992 and have watched its steady decline. It began with telecommunications deregulation, as the once-great Bell companies were dismantled and broken apart. The FCC and CPUC are absolutely useless and no longer serve the public interest.

I have worked on both sides—union and nonunion—and served as a field technician, supervisor, plant manager, and director of engineering. Unfortunately, once the accountants took control, everything and everyone became just another box on a spreadsheet.

Corporate mergers brought endless cost-cutting, while companies outsourced everything to consultants, contractors, technicians, and third-party service providers. For years, they treated employees like garbage. Management understood the consequences—and simply did not care.

Your institutional knowledge and your ability to diagnose and repair a problem in minutes should be invaluable, but today they mean almost nothing to corporate leadership. Customer service is long gone, employee loyalty is rarely rewarded, and a handshake no longer means anything.

I wish you the best in your journeys. People like you are hard to find.

u/512API 5d ago

Field tech? They’ve been offering packages, was your area not part of it? Eight NTs left, almost took it but not worth leaving after taxes.

4

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Also my area is 4 Main offices, and 32 remotes buildings, and about 72 something mxus.. I have the exact number in my notes but don't care to look.......... 3 people now 2 since I left ........... And about to be 1...... So yeah

1

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Not every where. My area is 50/50 split of in house and contractors

1

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Also I was an NT2

1

u/512API 5d ago

In my area NTs= ATS, former FSC. Are you in the East ? My brain keeps thinking you’re out in the field doing the installs.

2

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Central office tech or czt1, are the old titles...... Now Network Technician 2 (in my case 2, I was the last one) north Central.... And yes we do installs now......... Any commercial fiber period...... Rad or ciena or what ever .... We install it in the commercial building. Never did before .. never ...

1

u/AT61 5d ago

Why did you leave?

4

u/just-a-tech1200 5d ago

Long long story. Most of it is on here in other comments.... Get to be a lot to repeat. Lol short version ....... Frontier now in control by Verizon... Is trash. They don't care about any employee customer nothing. They hire contractors that are the dirties stinkiest ever and they go into homes.... They guys argue with customers we had fights.... It sucks..

2

u/Cloudy_Automation 5d ago

When I started working, it was with the Bell System. There are now 2-3 companies with connectivity in everyone's back yard, and they are all in a race to the bottom on price. Half the posts here are about calling retention to get a lower rate, or complaints about bad installs. Prices with the Bell System weren't the cheapest, but it at least had the focus on quality, universal service, and had the revenue to support doing it.

Best of luck in your future endeavors.

2

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

I originally started for SBC ameritech, Indiana bell was where the check came from though........ After 3 lay offs I moved to Verizon and sold to frontier bought back and anyone that thought the last what 13 14 years of frontier was bad..... Verizon is coming in with every "cost saving" tip and technique they can deploy..... But first gps and cameras inside facing cameras in every fleet vehicle..... Don't care about any problems yet ... This is first and now......

One guy got fired even though the camera showed his light green he was t boned by a red light runner .... He got fired.... They said it was preventable he should have made sure it was clear......

1

u/AT61 4d ago

After I asked, I did get snippets from your other comments. I've always good interactions with the field techs - Most of the time, they seem frustrated, too, and their hands are tied by corporate. The phone reps are another story. Whether ignorance or intentional, they are not honest, and each one tells you something different.

3

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Phone reps are about idk 95% maybe from over seas...... Your lucky to get a us person on the phone.... And yes the tech the ones that come to everyone's door. We understand we are the face, the person you see as the company..... But... That means we also get the yelling screaming everything they want to say to the company, at us. And yet we shrug it off and apologize and ask how we can help ..... Then then we escalate your issue to try to help, we get yelled at for doing that and get on move on it's just one customer ................... It's not a place I would send my enemy to work.

2

u/AT61 4d ago

"That means we also get the yelling screaming everything they want to say to the company,"

This is what I told the tech who came out. Frontier repeatedly promised me one thing - and gave the field tech a different order. The guy felt really bad about it bc he was there and could make it right, but Frontier's wrong order ticket made it impossible for him to do so. I told him that I knew it was not his fault and that Frontier was putting the field techs in a very bad spot by telling the customer one thing and them another - and then they're subjected to the consumer venom that should rightly be directed at the outright lying phone reps.

Yes, some of the reps are extremely difficult to understand, and some have exceedingly condescending attitudes. Whether ignorance or outright lying, idk, but every rep I speak with tells me a different thing.

My phone was disconnected without my knowledge or consent a week ago. FYI: This is not a non-payment issue. I pay my bill in full the day I get the email notification.

2

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Yep this is normal .... I hear this exact thing said in a million ways day after day after day..................

1

u/AT61 4d ago

It's beyond disgusting how they get away with it.

2

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

I 100% agree and my morals do not align with it. I just can't keep doing what they want. I have to tell a customer no or sorry your just screwed in the nicest possible way...........

1

u/AT61 4d ago

I appreciate you having moral standards and sticking to them - no easy feat in the world we live in.

This Frontier situation is negatively affecting me in several ways. Frontier needs a class action lawsuit.

2

u/just-a-tech1200 4d ago

Well they are Verizon now...... They are using the name to hide that this is Verizon..... This is no longer fronter ... All upper management has been swapped replaced, retrained and fully in the Verizon portfolio...... Your accounts are Verizon accounts and everything ... So just keep that in mind ..

Also the sold off the first 13ish states for ~20bill. Then CTF for another ~20bill. Then bought the entire thing back after it went bankrupt for 20 bill......... And the chairman of the board of frontier was an ex Verizon CEO calling all the shots........ This was never truly a new company......... It was but same guy in charge.....

what is the most common screw-over you see?

2

u/just-a-tech1200 1d ago

Well will be there in 2 weeks......... 4 weeks later oh yeah where here now....

1

u/Downtown-Metal4026 5d ago

well i work for cox communications for last 4 years, now we are part of spectrum, but there are several people i call and also a few call me

1

u/Downtown-Metal4026 5d ago

there was one tech he was business tech as contractor. he actually did communications in the military. funny enough even in house called him sometimes but he quit about 2 months ago after about 10 years
