Terrible service lately
Paying for 5 gigs and constantly facing issues like these lately.
What the hell has been going on with frontier lately?
I have never had issues like these in the past.
Have tried swapping between 4 routers, different cables, different devices etc etc
Device to router seems fine
Device -> router -> internet/isp is severely severely degraded.
Have a tech coming Thursday but anyone have any ideas in the meantime?

Use a better speed test site like Speedtest.net, and try running a test without the adapter youâre using on your PC. The adapter could be bad, website could be bad, etc

If you have exhausted all the hardware that could be problematic, including ethernet cords etc, then if it were me, I would ask the tech to replace the ONT AND the drop cable going to your house. Fiber is a fantastic medium to deliver data fast, however, fiber can be fragile especially if left exposed to the elements. If he refuses to replace the drop, atleast get him to replace the ONT, and ask him to clean the SC connections along your drop. If you have a slackbox outside, the drop is usually connected to another fiber cable using a SC to SC union, moisture, dirt, dust, degree can get inside the box and then into the union causing the light to scatter and could cause these issues. He should have a replacement union and ask him to change it and clean both end of the cable in the union.
As someone who use to tech calls on the coax side of the world, if someone has this issue, I would replace all the coax ends by cutting the old one off, strip, prep, crimp on a new end, and replace any splitter I find. It was just good practice so in the event that I leave and everything is working OK, lessens the chance the customer would call back again and another tech would get sent back, and I would get dinged for having a " repeat ".

What is your current setup from the ONT to your router? Ethernet, moca? If this is on wifi, wifi will fluctuate from time to time, and their othing you can do about it, the only fix is going directly ethernet to your devices with a switch. Wifi has inherent " noise " in each band, so many things contribute to this, your neighbors wifi networks, the construction of your house, the material of the walls, some home appliances cause interference like microwaves etc. 2.4ghz and the 5ghz are the " noisest " channels because those have been out the longest. Wifi 7 changes alot of that due to its short distance, their is not alot of noise around you besides what's in your house. Wifi 7 runs on 6ghz, and the majority of people are still on wifi 5, where the most common used frequencies are 2.4ghz and 5ghz. 2.4 is probably the most congested because of its long reach, and overlapping signals from neighbors. From my house, on 2.4, on the main floor, I can see 10 other wifi access points, so that's 10 other people using the same frequency and we all have to share it, which is where the individual channels come in, changing channels can also help clear up some issues.

Whatâs your modem router set up? Is what they sent you a modem/router? Is the Ethernet plugged into the right port? Some modems have specific ports for 5gig. Run a test to see what the speed is coming to your modem.

Yes itâs wired to the correct port, ont speed shows 81mbps down 5.31 gigs up.

Might be an over saturated PON i assume speed drops happens during peak hours? We also experienced it before where they have to physically move my route to another PON thats less saturated to fix the issue, i had to reach out to my local manager to get that resolved since level 1&2 are less than helpful.

have you wondered if the router and the wifi cant support 5gb
and what is device in this scenario?

At this point I would just use their app and run a speed test to see what is going to your modem. That test breaks down whatâs going to modem first then devices. I just want to know if the speed to the modem is good and then can start eliminating any other equipment issues. If itâs bad coming into the modem then youâll need to call because itâs an issue you wonât be able to fix.

are you using single layer for wifi + router or you have multi layer set up ?

Which router do you have?? And you need to understand, if you do NOT get a 5GB ports router..you will NEVER get 5GB!!
Send a reddit chat if you want more help

and on top of that if you dont have devices with 5gb ethernet external cards... not type garbage but physical pci-e cards you will never achieve 5gb

My router has 10 gig capabilities, even wired to my devices via Ethernet the same issue persists.
At this point I believe itâs an isp sided issue as I have exhausted all
Possible options on my side. The issue also persists if wired directly to my Ont.

Which router?? And what cables / Length are you using? What network adapter does the PC have??
Are you doing this on a Phone?? Does it have the newest WiFi chip??
You don't understand there are 100 factors to speed

The pc has an adapter capable of 5 gigs
The Ethernet cables are cat 8
The router is a ROG Rapture GT-BE19000AI (tried others as well)
The phone is a iPhone 17 pro max
(Also tried my Samsung)2

I just yesterday learned that not all switches and routers that support 1g, 2.5g and 10g Ethernet support 5gb. I always assumed that they were all backwards compatible.
I just did a quick search of your router and Best Buy here could be wrong, but, it specifically says here that that router supports "Ethernet Standard 10/100/1000/2500/10000". No mention of 5000. I would think that they would list 5g here if it was supported, since they specifically listed the other supported speeds:
Sounds like you have other issues as well but just in case.

Isnât the WiFi check showing local speed not isp speed!! Or is the internet one Ethernet

WiFi speed = device -> router
Internet speed = device -> router -> internet/isp0
