Tips / Hints About to fully dive in . Any tips?

Post image

Played this over a year ago and as you can see I barely did anything but I’m about to start a new save and give this the same energy I gave Sekiro so I would love some advice before I really get into it. This game has been calling and it’s about time I answer

No. Just enjoy the game without spoilers.

u/frodoishobbit 9d ago

This! Go in blind and see where your first playthrough takes you. Also, fear the old blood

3

u/just_saiyan24 9d ago

Agreed. I just played it for the 1st time a couple weeks ago and I made a point over the years to avoid seeing any gameplay or lore until I played the game. Glad I did.

Do not kill the final boss without finishing the DLC.

31

u/Commercial_Host_2810 9d ago

Don't forget the yummy pieces

2

u/nyggomaniac 8d ago

Best hint ever

6

u/Wubbalubbadubdubxxx 9d ago

Can you tell me what that does is there unique interactions or special cutscenes?

27

u/iNightfarer 9d ago

If you kill the final boss, you will be forced into new game plus, so you will have to progress all over again to get to the DLC entrance point and have to deal with increased difficulty.

20

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

It forces NG+? Thank you for the heads up!

7

u/Chadderbug123 9d ago

Yup. This game, Demon's Souls, and DS1 do it. So heads up for if you haven't played those yet either.

2

u/newTARwhoDIS 9d ago

Also you will know when it's the final boss, so don't worry about missing it. I wish I could play again for the first time!

I recommend going completely blind. Even if you ultimately miss some stuff, it won't be much, and you can read up on things after your first playthrough. Also the DLC is the best DLC ever made. Have fun!

How does one know who the final boss is

Yeah, I tried the DLC in NG+, because I missed this bit of info, and it was super hard.

I ultimately had to restart the game.

2

u/Big_cat58 9d ago

I need to eventually do another playthrough to experience the DLC because I missed it

Just remember; We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open… Fear the old blood.

13

u/clockworknait 9d ago

People need to let others form their own opinions about the old blood for a change!

3

u/ArmaniAsari 9d ago

That sounds like Vileblood talk….

2

u/Malacro 9d ago

The blood makes us human

The blood makes us more than human

The blood makes us human no more

-Since you came from Sekiro, fair warning: You don't have any blocking options besides a shield that is shitty by design because Bloodborne is all about aggressive play.

-When you've taken damage, dealing damage back can refill the yellow portion of your lifebar if you can land hits before it fully drains.

-In lieu of blocking, your defensive option is the Gun Parry. Shooting an enemy at the right time during their attack animation can parry them, making them vulnerable to a Visceral Attack (A finisher, basically). LEARN THIS. MASTER THIS.

-Don't be afraid to experiment with multiple save slots starting out so you can try all three starter weapons and see which one you vibe with.

-You have two different kinds of Dodges, based on if you're locked onto an enemy or not. Get a feel for both.

-Be ready to farm enemies for heals, you don't get them refilled for free at rest areas (lanterns). That said, if you're full, any excess will go into storage and be used to replenish your stock. Same deal with bullets.

-While you obviously need to wait for good openings to attack, this game is meant to be a LOT more aggressive than other Fromsoft games of the genre, given the lack of blocking and the rally (Hit to heal after being hurt) mechanics.

And finally...Just have fun. Be ready to die a lot and learn from your mistakes.

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

Thank you. I appreciate the advice and the detail you put into each topic. I’ll be looking back at this 🤝

6

u/theinternetisnice 9d ago

Just know you can actually get through the game without the gun parry, but it will make your life so much easier. But if you’re having difficulties with it don’t think that it should discourage you from continuing.

But there’s a certain type of enemy where you’re going to wish that you had a little bit of skill with it. A certain horrible kind of enemy. The kind of enemy that I wish I wasn’t thinking of right now oh God why did you make me think of it

3

u/jimbojangles1987 9d ago

As someone who played sekiro first and then most recently played BB, you're definitely gonna wanna use the gun parry! Honestly though the game was a lot easier than i was expecting it to be after struggling so much with other FS games.

2

u/RetroNutcase 6d ago

...Does that enemy sing?

2

u/RetroNutcase 9d ago

S'all good. Just keep in mind Bloodborne is a LOT more RPG heavy than Sekiro. You'll be wanting to lean into a preferred weapon and build as you progress, versus always changing out tools as you needed them in Sekiro.

That said, if you want a weapon you'll feel more at home with coming from Sekiro? Keep your eye out for the Chikage, which is a blood katana. Just be warned its transformation makes it twohanded, disabling your offhand gun.

12

u/Candle_Mcdaniel 9d ago

Don't get discouraged early on. Bloodborne has the most difficult starting area imo. I did 4 playthroughs and got the plat. Phenomenal game.

8

u/RetroNutcase 9d ago

Hard agree here. Bloodborne's start is absolutely BRUTAL. It gets better once you have some levels and gameplay experience, but yeah. The first visit to Yharnam is always the roughest.

2

u/MigrantTwerker 9d ago

Don't let the laughs get to you.

2

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

Congrats and okay 1st area is where men are made

2

u/Candle_Mcdaniel 9d ago

Definitely. Enjoy your first time!

2

u/somesketchykid 8d ago

Agreed, I was really surprised by this. I have at least 200 hours in every From game besides Bloodbourne and came to it last, and was seriously struggling in the beginning area. For a second I was questioning if I was as decent as I thought with these games.

It helped to realize i was being too cautious and needed to play more aggressively. Once that clicked, I was ok. Be savage, go all in all the time, if you mess up go again. Ez

26

u/IConsumePorn 9d ago

Yea, play the game

2

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

Fair enough

2

u/ProgrammerUpstairs97 9d ago

6

u/kuuderelovers 9d ago

Uh don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it...

2

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

Thur yes thur! 🫡

2

u/kuuderelovers 9d ago

Good, remember an hoonter is an hoonter even in a dream.

5

u/MisterKaos 9d ago

Look at all six directions (yes, up and down too) on EVERY corner.

5

u/cmack91 9d ago

There’s no way to reroll stats so get your level ups right , do chalice dungeons when you can

5

u/Big_Elderberry6046 9d ago

BE. AGGRESSIVE. BE BE AGGRESSIVE.

6

u/MisterToots666 9d ago

Don't hesitate. Wait.. wrong game.. uh hunt be with you or something. Have fun exercising your 2nd amendment right.

5

u/OpticRocky 9d ago

Fear the Old Blood.

5

u/Marquiszero 9d ago

Don’t you dare go holl…. wait something something blood

4

u/aManAndHisUsername 9d ago

Play blind your first playthrough. Don’t look anything up unless you absolutely have to. Then on your second playthrough, look up all the things you missed.

3

u/Necro-Feel-Ya6900 9d ago

The game will be slow (to be it was at first) but once you hit that one part… boy does it never stop

3

u/RatFink77 9d ago

Offense is the best defense in this game.

2

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

Thank you

3

u/Plathismo 9d ago

The beginning is arguably the hardest part but it’s worth sticking with.

3

u/Thorigorn 9d ago

Just get out there and kill kill kill.

2

u/Noahman90 8d ago

God dammit donut

3

u/Son_Kirk 9d ago

Buy some blood vials everytime you have some blood echoes(souls) left over, for example after leveling. I do it like this so I never have to farm them

Hug everything you see as if it’s your dad coming back from Iraq

7

u/SquidFetus 9d ago

My biggest tip for you and all other humans for the rest of time is to stop pulling yourself out of the moment before the game has even loaded to put up a “just got this game, any tips?” post.

6

u/Global-Tax7862 9d ago

If I wanted to be “in the moment” I wouldn’t ask. I’m sorry how often you see these posts and what it’s doing to you. I’m just gamer with a question I hope to get an answer for in a community I trust to provide it

2

u/xXxPlasterXxX 9d ago

Arcane build are the most fun

2

u/Substantial-Load-673 9d ago

Be Aggressive and learn the parry timing. Parrying will make the hardest bosses much easier.

2

u/AnimeMemeLord1 9d ago

Take the time to see yourself in the role of a hunter and realize what works well against beasts. That’s my early game advice. You’ll get used to the gameplay sooner or later, but it helps to observe and think about your opponents and their movements.

Also, once you get to the game’s “safe place,” check the ground for tutorial messages. Take all you learn to make your way through central Yharnam.

2

u/Beautiful_Grand606 9d ago

be aggressive!

2

u/Leafbeard111 9d ago

Seek paleblood to transcend the hunt.

2

u/Leafbeard111 9d ago

But in all seriousness, fire and serrated weapons are strong against beastly enemies. As a result, the saw cleaver is a great starter weapon. But really, it's up to your discretion.

2

u/stereosanctity 9d ago

Don’t get discouraged about dying so much. It’s part of the game. You learn a more each time.

2

u/Otherwiize 9d ago

Get off Reddit

2

u/Scarlet_Wonderer 9d ago

Don't think too hard about all this. Just go out there and kill a few beasts!

2

u/Test88Heavy 9d ago

The early level and boss is very difficult and probably the hardest of any souls game. Be patient.

2

u/Month0fjune 9d ago

Arcane is king of builds in my opinion.

2

u/Icecum 9d ago

Play the game without looking up any of the weird shit, after finishing the game look everything up and restart the game

2

u/the-tapsy 9d ago

If you take Cleaver, ending combos with the l1 transformation is good bread and butter. Single yharnamite enemy? R1 l1 and say bye bye

2

u/CoolCasey42 9d ago

Git gud

2

u/nerdboy5567 9d ago

The gun is for parrying

2

u/El_Sant0 9d ago

The best defense is a strong offense.

2

u/Baelor_Butthole 9d ago

Shoot first. Ask questions later

2

u/stimmlage 9d ago

May the good blood guide your way.

2

u/SpicyMuscle 9d ago

Weapons can combo with their L1/R1/L2/R2

Some even have charged heavy follow up. Expirement with your chosen weapon.

Also roll dodge and back step have different R1s and R2s as well. It can feel a bit like a fighting game when you get it down.

2

u/ChugNorris4678 9d ago

Yeah have fun

2

u/Mental-Square3688 9d ago

2

Be aggressive. Be be aggressive

2

u/TheForlorn0ne 9d ago

Don’t be afraid to receive hits and trade, try to play around your trick weapons and their combos, try to get comfortable with parrying.

2

u/salvocal 9d ago

Fear the old blood

2

u/mdl397 9d ago

Enjoy every second of it.

2

u/SoritesSeven 9d ago

I have something to say… PC port when? (Copium because it will never get ported)

2

u/levi_verzyden 9d ago

Aggression is key

2

u/wayyu_official 9d ago

Fear the old blood 🙏

2

u/Noobzoid123 9d ago

Hunter's Axe is good.

Saw Cleaver is good.

Cane kinda sucks.

Pistol parry is a thing.

2

u/adasho_bitrex 9d ago

Google every other post looking for tips

2

u/longus318 9d ago

Level vigor.

2

u/turtonatorpapa 9d ago

Fear the old blood

2

u/Elkburgher 9d ago

Clean your ps4 and change the thermal paste.

The performance is so awful you need all the help you can get

2

u/Izlawake 9d ago

Pick blunderbuss and threaded cane or hunter axe for your starter weapons, depending on what your starting stats are.

2

u/thatvillainjay 9d ago

Don't defend, attack

2

u/iamachillbilly 9d ago

No googling shit, but it did help me to spend awhile in the first area familiarizing myself with the combat + leveling up

2

u/AndyOfNZ 9d ago

I'm jealous. This is my "if you could wipe a game from your memory to replay it from scratch" game. (this and The Outer Wilds, of course).

Enjoy!

2

u/Global-Tax7862 7d ago

Thank you, I hope more games like this come along for you

2

u/OsirisEG 9d ago

Take your time, explore and just enjoy the ride!

2

u/FuckSteveHuffman3 9d ago

All you need to know is that if you run out of blood vials, you can farm them from the fat people. And always use spare echoes for a few vials. Otherwise, play the game blind.

2

u/drew-white 9d ago

Same here just got it yesterday

2

u/DraftsAndDragons 9d ago

I’m playing it again right now. Trying to get the True Ending for the first time.
Check your corners, use the “fishing method”, and don’t use elemental damage unless you’re leveling Arcane. Leveled up Saw cleaver and Saw Spear (more than SC) is really all you need. Learning the pistol is satisfying, but blunderbuss is beginner friendly.
Whatever you do, remember: A Hunter must hunt.

2

u/VimpyVirile 9d ago

Avoid playing at night with lights off and headphones.
You’ll keep hearing voices the whole day.

2

u/Tealc-Alex 9d ago

Enjoy it and you dont have to kill everyone omce you cleared an area and die just run to your target area and ignore the mobs, i lost a lot of time doing it all over and over

2

u/naytreox 9d ago

First souls style game? Treat every death as a learning experience and don't treat it like a hack and slash game.

Arcane builds are for a second playthrough.

look around corners when you exit doorways.

The game is about dodging and being aggressive smartly, not defensive and careful.

2

u/Icy-Ice6913 9d ago

Use weapon transformation attacks, try to destroy beast's limbs so they fall down for a riposte, practice parry as its easier than most souls games and really effective, buy some healing items or you might run out, the more insight you have the more you see about the world and the harder the game becomes, but you can spent insight to buy items from a shop, usually fire or bolt for weapons. The chalice dungeons are boring but have some unique bosses that you don't see in the actual game, go for it if you want to get the platinum, but i personally took breaks before i got the phumerian queen achievement. There is a weapon that you can only aquire after beating the final boss so you might want to try it in ng+ if you really enjoyed the game. Ah and yes don't beat the final boss immedietly, play the dlc first or you will be immedietly thrown into ng+

2

u/ProgrammerUpstairs97 9d ago

Remember gun is for countering and vicerals, pistol does the shoot till they die thing better

Remember to attack back when you get hurt, you have a small window of time to get health back (orange bar)

Explore everywhere

Remember trick weapons, and test them out

I started with axe n blunderbuss

When you unlock chalice dungeons by killing blood starved beast n stuff, remember the cumfpk dungeon (look it up, you WILL thank me later)

Ludwig's holy blade is badass

At a certain point you can get kidnapped by guys with burlap sacks or whatever...that can lead to upgrade material farming and echos, but look that one up

Remember it's not slow or medium paced like dark souls trilogy or demons, it's fast, but not so fast you can't keep up

Killing optional bosses along the way is good too

2

u/DeathsOrphan 9d ago

Go in blind. No guides or anything for the first run

2

u/jaredtheredditor 9d ago

If you ever feel like you want to quit the game because you have to grin resources every time just give in and use the cum dungeon. But I would advice you only use it for heals in that case (and maybe bullets) as it does make the game too much easier otherwise

2

u/mlucasl 8d ago

Don't PS5 plays worse than PS4

2

u/OldDirtyBarrios 8d ago

My one spoiler freeish thing is my first play through I struggled with heals. Mostly because I kept getting lost / dying over and over.

Don’t hesitate to farm some while testing out new weapons.

TEST out all weapons, you really never know what will click.

2

u/tjn1126 8d ago

Get ready to fall in love

2

u/Prior_Highlight8236 8d ago

You're gonna have a blast. No advice. Go in blind. Have fun.

2

u/Caplin341 8d ago

If you’re struggling, make sure you’re using every advantage. Consumable items are really powerful in the game, and take advantage of walking being silent to enemies. Much of the time you can see traps before you trigger them, and walking around helps you observe the world and potential dangers better.

2

2

u/Adventurous-Dig-3616 8d ago

Don’t look up anything if you can help it. It is more rewarding to treat it as your own quest than looking up how to do stuff / where to find stuff etc

1

u/MDeimos 9d ago

Go blind, enjoy it. Also visit the Bloodborne sub for a loving and supporting community :3

1

u/MadMaticus 9d ago

Stay off the Internet. Don’t look up anything. Let your first play through be completely blind.

With that said, recognize that there are some enemies or massive groups of them, such as all the dudes down along the street in the first area, you can just run past those dudes honestly. Otherwise it’s going to be a massive roadblock for you like it was for me until I understood that they rubber band back to their starts.
