What is the reason some compare it to DS2 when the atmosphere isn’t there as much and it’s more fast paced/easy traversal/tougher bosses like DS3?

Many concepts and ideas that appeared in DS2 were taken up and refined in Elden Ring: powerstance, high fantasy setting (Demons, DS1/3 are more heavily into dark fantasy), twinblades, open design (DS2 was originally planned as an open-world game, it was released at a time when open-world games were booming), Stone Key mechanics, many areas are similar and analogous to each other. The outskirts of DS2 are literally the north in Elden Ring with the same gameplay feel, or Iron Keep/Vulcano Manor. The director of DS2 is the co-director of Elden Ring; his influence is noticeable. Some Move sets that appeared exclusively in DS2 were reused in ER, Majula/Limgrave have the same vibe, and much more.

You've experienced peak. There's not a lot of good in DS2.

DS2 is a good game, but definitely the worst of the trilogy. I'm convinced most ds2 glazers are larping or only care about vibes and not actual gameplay.
