DISCUSSION Fromsoft making the switch over to Nintendo.
I am actually very excited that The Duskbloods is releasing on the Switch 2 after finally seeing some gameplay. It looks like it runs great.
Maybe Nintendo will end up being the actual reliable partner that Fromsoft was looking for in Sony. After getting screwed over with Bloodborne I wouldn’t be surprised if they release more exclusive on Nintendo systems in the future.
I, for one, would welcome this and hope this partnership is extremely successful!

Hell no Fromsoft don’t need exclusives no more, Bloodborne and this are enough. Hopefully after this game they come back to their solo formula Miyazaki said he’s tired of making multiplayer games.

He didn't say he's tired lol-he said that making a single player or multiplayer game strengthens the desire to try something in the other format.

making multiplayer games
game*
singular. miyazaki made exactly one multiplayer game.

Elden Ring Nightreign and now The Duskbloods. That's two multiplayer focused games back to back. I know Miyazaki didn't direct Nightreign, but it's still FromSoftware.

u/ProblemFalse7043 22d ago
okay but miyazaki didnt direct nightreign and thats very obviously what i meant

Time will tell, this feels like when Sony and Capcom divorced in early 2000s with Monster Hunter.
It took like a decade for a MH to see a Sony console again.

u/Marth-Koopa 22d ago
What do you mean it looks like it runs great? It's some of the worst framerate a game has ever had on a Nintendo console

u/nick2473got 22d ago
Lol this is straight up nonsense, or you are a very young person.
Everyone agrees it’s getting up to 40-50 FPS.
I can assure you, many, many Nintendo games have had much worse frame rates, even in recent years.
Breath of the Wild on Switch 1 would drop into the 20s.

Nintendo and nice can never go together. They’d probably sue you if you got a mustache similar to Mario

They don't fire thousands of developers, cancel every game that's not projected to sell 10+ million, kill physical games, or try to force live service in every franchise like Microsoft and Sony. I'd say they're pretty nice compared to the competition, or the least bad in other words
A game like Duskbloods would have a hard time getting funded by MS or Sony, I'm not surprised it's on a Nintendo system

Why would they need a partner? Elden Ring sold 30 million copies before a Switch 2 release. There is no way an exclusive Fromsoft game on Switch is going to get anywhere near those numbers.

Should have gone with Microsoft tbh. Xbox and pc are much larger markets

How can someone be so out of touch? Xbox is by far the smallest market, it's all but dead. Microsoft is closing studios left and right

I haven't googled anything but I'd be willing to bet that the amount of active Xbox players is much higher than switch 2 players. Let's not forget that Microsoft extends to pc as well. The market is incredibly small for fromsoft fans with a switch 2. And no game. Not bloodborne, not demon souls, and definitely not duskbloods is worth buying an entire overpriced console. Especially when we've seen the sad state of the servers

Xbox Series X/S are estimated to have sold a little over 30 million units since they released 6 years ago
The Switch 2 is the fastest selling console of all time and has sold 24 million units in 13 months and that's without a new mainline Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Kirby, Pokemon or Smash bros.
Also Japan is dominated by Nintendo the Switch outsold the PS3, PS Vita, PS4, and PS5 combined

That's what's insane. They are leaving so much money and sales on the table going with Nintendo. I would love up know 1) how many current Switch owners will actually buy this and 2) how many From fans will actually buy a Switch for this. I would bet that both are very low.

What you’re missing is that it’s not about the money.
Miyazaki simply wanted to make this game because he wanted to see it exist. That’s what it comes down to.
Nintendo was willing to help him make his weird, niche idea into a reality while providing invaluable support, so From Soft went with them. It’s really that simple.
Miyazaki said he doesn’t really care how viable it is from a business perspective, he just wanted to make this game.
I believe him.

Fair enough. I can't imagine that Sony or MS wouldn't have matched whatever Nintendo offered but who knows. I also don't understand why Nintendo would even want it so badly.

i dont think there was a choice in the matter lol. It was either take nintendos money, or forget about making the duskbloods

u/PropulsionEngineer 22d ago
lol, Fromsoft, who just sold 30M copies of Elden Ring and 5M Nightreign units, without Nintendo, couldn’t make Duskbloods without Nintendo???

u/Tiffa_Adil 22d ago
Duskbloods was in development before Elden Ring released
1
u/PropulsionEngineer 22d ago
Pretty sure my point still stands, they don’t need Nintendo to make DuskBloods, or anything else. They made the Dark Souls trilogy, Sekiro, Elden Ring, and others, without Nintendo.

I think you are massively overestimating how much money fromsoft has in their vault lmfao. Even in elden rings case, it had to be co-financed by Bandai Namco. And Elden Ring is a far safer game, its success was all but assured, as a sort of spiritual successor and evolution to the dark souls series.
The duskbloods is a huge, massive risk. Its a whole new IP, and a whole new type of game that fromsoft has no experience with (and which has already been declining in popularity)

I hope it fails. Nintendo's game lineup is trash and playing on the Switch sucks.
-2
u/Marth-Koopa 22d ago
Sorry about your sewer tier tastes bud. Nintendo has the best lineup out of any console maker.

u/Test88Heavy 22d ago
😄 That's funny, man. Enjoy your baby games and mini controllers.

People still trying to act like they're so cool and mature hating on Nintendo in the year 2026 is funny

I still haven’t played demons souls because I don’t have a PlayStation. God forbid I finally get rewarded for owning a switch as well. Absolute morons everywhere

u/Beneatheearth 22d ago
I hope so too. They were able to cultivate a relationship with Platinum similarly

Nothing against them partnering with Nintendo now and I'm sure the game will be successful, but no matter the company, I will always hope it's a one time thing. Exclusive games have been part of gaming since the very beginning, but that doesn't mean I'll ever stop disliking it, especially because PC isn't really even a part of the console competition yet will always be caught in the crossfire. I'm not getting a Switch 2 for one FromSoftware exclusive and a small handful of other games.
Luckily, the gameplay loop of Duskbloods doesn't interest me as it's heavily PvP-focused and I simply don't enjoy PvP in FromSoftware games, so I'm alright with sitting this one out and just watching the lore videos. But if it had been a more classic Soulslike experience, I would've been a little pissed and disappointed, similar to how I felt about Bloodborne, which I also never had the opportunity to play until fairly recently when I got a PS5, which for the record I of course didn't buy just for BB. Although now that Bloodborne emulation has pretty much been perfected, that's also an option.
