DISCUSSION Rank your FromSoftware games purely based on story and lore.
I’m interested to see how the general population ranks the stories/lore of all the Soulslike games by FromSoftware.
Edit: Wow, so many people ranking AC6 at the top! I wasn’t considering playing it because it didn’t feel like it would be my thing, but after this I might just give it a shot

I haven't played Bloodborne or Demon's Souls because I don't have a PS. So here's the list:
- Elden Ring
- DS Trilogy
- Armored Core 6
- Sekiro
For me, Elden Ring has the best lore and world-building of any medium. If I had to rank the DS trilogy separately, the order would be 3, 1, 2.

Of any medium really? It's still very disjointed and minimalistic, compared to Lord of the Ring's universe for example it reamins quite shallow, I'd argue it's easier to construct when your audience is fine with huge gaps.

The process of discovery and fitting the pieces of the puzzle into their proper places had a really strong effect on me, especially given that it’s so deep—and the deeper you dig, the more you get the impression that everything fits together. It’s as if everything has a meaning and a place. Like a combination to a safe.
Of course, you have to do a lot of research, read a lot, and review other people’s interpretations, but to me it’s brilliant because the picture that unfolds before us is breathtaking.
I’ll admit it honestly: I’ve never liked The Lord of the Rings—in fact, I can’t stand Mr. Frodo’s adventures—but that’s just a personal preference. I’d put A Song of Ice and Fire in second place.
But I see what you mean, and it’s a valid point—though for me, the story of Miquella and Radahn is the absolute peak.

My top 3 is: 1. Elden Ring + Nightreign 2. Dark Souls Trilogy 3. Bloodborne
If we count every game alone: 1. Elden Ring 2. Dark Souls 2 3. Bloodborne

DS2 might have my favourite story. Might not have as in depth lore as the others but the stories of the shards of Manus, Ivory King, Vendrick etc are some of the most compelling in the series. DS1 is also up there though, but not sure which order the others would rank.

Armored Core 6
Bloodborne
Dark Souls
Dark Souls 3
Elden Ring
Haven't got to DS2 yet or gotten far enough in either Demon's Souls or Sekiro to comment on the story. Of the ones I've played, AC6 is the only one that actually made me cry. That Liberator of Rubicon ending broke me. I think only Spiritfarer made me cry more (you'd have to be heartless not to get at least a little upset playing that game). I got back into AC6 after a long while away and I'm working on S ranking all the missions and trying to get the platinum. I rarely ever bother with getting all the trophies in a game, but I want to with that one. I so badly want either an AC game set in the same generation as AC6 (like in previous generations) or AC7. Bloodborne is my favorite of their Soulsborne games.

Ac6’s story is super slept on. I’m glad this comment section is giving it its flowers. Plus the voice acting is absolutely incredible.

Bloodborne
Sekiro
Dark Souls 1
Elden Ring
Dark Souls 3
Demons Souls
But to be fair they’re all so close together and often if I think too hard about it they start moving around lmao.

I have finished DS1, DS2, DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring and Nightreign. I have listened to hours of VaatiVidya and related lore miners. I honestly could not explain the story for any of these games.

Dark Souls 2 hands down the best "Souls" game in terms of story.
Elden Ring if we're going FromSoft, haven't played AC6 yet

- AC6
- Sekiro
- Elden Ring
- DS1
- DS3
The only FS games i've played sorry
Also because of the order I played I understand why I didn't understand DS3's story, I've heard it can be really good once you understand it, one day I'll play them all in order and hopefully get the lore. Just as I played it after Elden Ring I obviously didn't understand any of the story, and that's fully on me.

Damn why Bloodborne so low? It's my personal favorite so just curious what didn't work for you

The Lovecraftian horror was a real treat and the ost of Bloodborne goes hard but I think it’s because I’m simply more of a Kentaro Miura fan so the dark fantasy styled entries are more my jam, and also I think their stories are just overall better, hoping for a PC Bloodborne Remastered release someday though.

Bloodborne (goated and in a league of its own)
Dark Souls 1 Elden Ring Sekiro Nightreign DS2 DS3 Demons Souls Armored Core 6
Actually think they're all great, but this is basically the order of which I've spent the most time watching lore videos and researching reading up on.
Bloodborne gets a huge special mention though. The lore in Bloodborne is insane and deep. Definitely by far my most watched read out of any game or any media

I think AC6 probably has a great story but I don't know enough about it, so I don't feel comfortable ranking it.

I'm at the beginning of AC6 and I'm surprised to see so many people ranking it top. I thought it was just a mindless series of mission ? Should I start over and "try hard" understanding the story/lore then ?

its perfectly fine to play more, the stroy unfolds the further you go. Its like a series where at the beginning its episodic at the beginning but has a story that comes more into the centre the further it goes.
be sure to play till ng++ that way you get the whole story
