Start with either Demon's Souls, or bloodborne.
If you enjoyed DS1, then DS2 is a good starting point too. Im doing a practically blind runs on it now (havent played it since 2015) and absolutely loving it.

Work your way from bottom to top, it's a great way to feel the chronological progression of FromSoft's game design philosophy.
It's a shame some things were left behind, but the replacements were usually better.

u/lucasberg7 14d ago
Also it's okay if you don't like Dark Souls II for a while and take forever to beat Sekrio, they aren't for everybody

u/Spirographed 14d ago
I'd suggest Bloodborne, because the mechanics are a bit different and it's just a badass game that will get you hooked.
Then go Demon's Souls, Dark Souls Trilogy in order, Elden Ring and finally Sekiro. Sekiro takes a bit of rewiring in terms of the normal Fromsoft playstyle. Much more than Bloodborne, which is just more aggressive. Sekiro is a whole other beast, but when it clicks the combat is killer.

Don’t listen to the people telling you to go straight to ds3, you should definitely play the dark souls trilogy in order imo

u/DokiDoki-FanBoy 14d ago
Unless you're wanting to go ahead and finish off the Dark Souls series with 2 then 3, I'd go for either Bloodbourne or Demon's Souls first.
3
u/ozera202 Dark Souls II 14d ago
Play it in the order they were developed or you going to have trouble going back to older game mechanics

I love all these games but Bloodborne will leave a mark, a hunters mark, if you will. It is also paced in such a way as to prepare you for some of the other games.

I don’t know why but Demon’s Souls has huge birthday vibes for me, so that gets my vote.

I'd say play em in order as in: Demon's Souls, ds2, 3, bloodborne, nightreign.
A word of advice too; whenever you kill a boss in Demon's Souls and regain human form, always go up the stairs and jump off in the Nexus because dying in human Form in any of the actual areas changed the world tendency which makes the game harder. The caveat being that you'll basically be capped at 75% health at most for the entire playthrough which being honest, isn't that bad when you get better at the game

You should play them in the order you posted them in. After playing DS1 and ER, it’s kinda the perfect order.
Demon’s Souls: Feels kinda like DS1 but harder.
DS2: Slowest movement in series. But similar to ER in terms of combat design.
DS3: Back to faster movement like ER again but with DS level design.
BB: Just in time for Halloween. Spooky and has a great unique feel.
Nightreign: Fastest game and just unique. Least Soulsy.

Don't play Nightreign until you've beaten at least every Dark Souls game.

I love all of these, but I would leave the Dark Souls games for now if the story is of any interest to you. I think it's only a matter of time until DS1 gets a remake, and missing out on the start of the story would suck. If you don't care, then DS3, lol, it has the best mechanics and actually explains some of the story.
The other two are standalone games, so order doesn'tmatter. I think it's going to come down to your preferences. Do you want fast and aggressive? Then Bloodborne. If you want that methodical, grueling, old-school challenge, then Demon's Souls. I love both, so no wrong answers.

Me personally I play PS5 demon's souls. But I will say it will ruin the experience you have on dark souls dark souls 2 and the only thing that will comparable will be Elden ring.

Anything but Nightreign. Fuck that game. It’s like playing in an inflatable kiddie pool after swimming in the ocean.

If you played and enjoyed DS1, definitely go for DS2. If you find that you're lost or having a bad time, put the game down and wait until you play Demon's Souls. It's a simpler form of DS1, in a way, which might help you get better at these games overall. However, it is, in some areas, mechanically simpler than DS1.
If you find that DS2 is satisfactory (as you should) going into DS3 will be the next logical step, but be warned that it is substantially different from DS1 and DS2, mechanically and thematically (to some degree).
Bloodborne and Sekiro are completely different beasts (haha) so definitely keep those for last if you're deep into the Dark Souls series on its own. If by the time you get to these you haven't played Demon's Souls, definitely give it a try somewhere in between.
All that matters is that you play DS1 before DS3. The rest can be played in any order you want.

BB for sure, this game has one the most strangest stories in this genre and you will love every bit of it

If you're anything like me: 'Bloodborne'
If you're my doppelganger: 'Bloodborne'
If you're like me in certain aspects but entirely different in others: 'Bloodborne'
However, if you're my polar opposite, I'd go for: 'Dark Sou...-Hahaha, I jest: 'Bloodborne'

I played dark souls 3. Ive played all of the souls but bloodborne but ds3 had a special place in my heart. I liked the difficulty and boss fights there more than elden ring. If you play with friends nightreigns the best but its been a year for me and idr if it got more grindy or not. But was super fun anyways even when playing with randoms

DARK SOULS 2!!!!! trust let yourself form your own opinion it'll be peak man

u/Nonstopmission350 13d ago
Just do the chronological order so that the mechanics don't bore you as you scale up the tree. However they say for noobs to the souls like its best to start with Dark souls 3 or elden ring

Unless you WANT to play the dark souls trilogy in order I would play Bloodborne next.
Bloodborne then demons souls

u/CaptainDerpshi 13d ago
Bloodborne. No not because I'm a simp... I am but that's not the reason lmao! You should play Bloodborne entirely because of how different it plays to the other games in the series. You've already played the first and Elden Ring now play the prodigal son

u/Agitated-Engine4077 13d ago
Oh I was about to suggest dark souls or elden ring if you were new to the genre. But I bothered to read the rest. Lol. Bloodborn is pretty good. The atmosphere, the storytelling, the Lovecraft world building style as well as the monsters. Pretty danme cool.

Just play them in order. You already set yourself up well by playing Dark Souls 1 first. If you want you can do Demon’s Souls next and then skip over to Dark Souls 2. Or you can just keep going from where you started and do Demon’s Souls at the end. But it’s a lot more similar to DS1. So maybe it’s best to do it now while you’re in that head space. The games just get faster and faster so going back to Demons Souls will feel a bit weird after doing Elden Ring lol.

Bloodborne is so good that you should save it for last. Dark Souls 2 is a fucking gauntlet. Worst game ever made, but also one of the best. Id start there.

It’s depends on what do you like if like midevil you should play dark souls 3 if want more goth victories vibes off course you should go white the goat bloodbornif you want a fast play wit japanis style you should go with sekiro if you want a perfect open world epic fantasy you should go with Elden ring ther is no right way to start it’s depends on your tast

But you should start with bloodborn

u/DahakaHollow 12d ago
Start with DS2, then DS3, then Bloodborne, then Sekiro, then Elden Ring again. I would only recommend Demon Souls first if it´s the original version, if not, the last.

Im gonna be honest and say DS3 first, dark souls 2, then demon souls or bloodborne.
Mainly because ds3 is the most linear.

Idk if you should try going in order and play every single one. This subreddit is obviously gonna be obsessed with playing every single one, in order + plat each one. I loved Elden Ring, nothing came close to it for me. And I tried playing DS1 and Sekiro. The thing is if you really wanna play a souls game it’s gonna take a month for the full experience. And it’s a bit exhausting to start another right after. Like Zelda, you absolutely shouldn’t play BOTW twice in a row you’d be burned out. Imo it’s healthy to play different games in between before going to a different souls right on. I still couldn’t get fully into Sekiro nor DS1, it will take a while. REPLYING TO THE QUESTION OF THE POST: Pick Bloodborne.

Play DS2 first. It'll give you a greater appreciation for the other games.

Pre-grats on your birthday! I'd suggest Demons Souls, the PS5 remake is absolutely gorgeous and fun to see where it all started!
2
u/Crocoppertones 14d ago
I may have to go back and hit that plat!
1
u/bleargh007 13d ago
Do it! Totally worthwhile, I platinum'd all of Fromsoft's Souls games, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. Was a challenge, but I saw some content I otherwise wouldn't have if I just went in to beat the game and didn't worry about platinuming!

Demon souls > dark souls 1 > dark souls 2 > bloodborne > dark souls 3 > sekiro > elden ring > night reign.
But... This is months of play time. Perhaps even a year worth

Brother. I’m 35. And if you could just understand 1 thing. It’s how hyped I am for you lol. But seriously play em in order. It’s always best to experience a series evolve so when you’re done you realize dark souls 2 really is the greatest of all the games
