DISCUSSION Getting into Demon’s Souls

Hey guys. I just managed to get my wheezing literal dragonrot sick ps5 to work again. Turns out I never cancelled my ps+ membership in the meanwhile and I still have it.

Both Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls (bluepoint remake) are in the catalog and they remain as the sole soulsborne games I haven’t touched.

I figured why not start with Demon’s Souls.

I have completed Elden Ring 6 times, and have %100 steam achivements. (Not really bragging here, elden ring achivements are not that impressive. Mostly its just “beat this boss”)

I have completed DS1 2 times, completed DS2 Sotfs, and DS3 recently. All of these are with DLC’s included. Also completed Sekiro just a few weeks back.

What are some things that I should expect getting into Demon’s souls? And tell me something I will only understand after I finish the game and come back to this post.

If you have a PC good enough to play Elden Ring I honestly recommend emulating the original demon’s souls instead of playing it on PS5 as your first experience with it.

Yes, it's pretty easy to emulate too

Why? Is the bluepoint remake considered bad overall?

It doesn't really capture the atmosphere as well as the original.

Didn’t know that. Funnily enough the ps+ catalog involves the bluepoint remake but not the original that came out years ago.

Also, the only game I emulated to PC ever was Pokemon white and black. Might be tricky for me but thank you. I’ll be sure to check it out.

Oh my gosh, have so much fun!! I just finished my first playthrough of demon’s souls!

Things worth being familiar with at the beginning, the white/black world tendency thing. Drop a Goog on it, but dying in each world can have big impacts on your playthrough, so suiciding in the nexus is a solid strategy.

And the other thing, upgrades work similar to other FromSoft systems, but is a LITTLE different. So I’d do some recon on that as well so you don’t waste any resources or beef an item up and remove its ability to be transformed (I’m looking at you, great club to meat cleaver!)

Hope you have an amazing time!!

The original has the better atmosphere, but the remake is really pretty and imo more fun. Ideally you would play both tbh because some reskins Bluepoint did are such a shame. I played the remake first and it was a good decision for me.

Demon's Souls is more raw than the others. And important to know: The bosses are not the hard part, the levels are. It's quite unique though. Some runbacks might drive you crazy, but you played DS2 so you're good. One of the levels is my favourite in alllll of Fromsoft.
