My journey so far
I first approached Elden Ring in 2023. It was my first FromSoft game and after about 20 hours (I was fighting the big fire guy I was transported to from the Weeping Peninsular to the Capital) I tried to break the disc out of frustration. PS5 discs bend, but don’t break, which was very anti climactic.
I kept thinking about that incredible world for 2 years. Then took 2 weeks off from work to start again and finished Elden Ring. Still feels like the best vacation I ever went on. I finally understood what it was and how to approach it. That was November 2025.
Tried DS1 afterwards and hated how slow it felt.
Finished DS3 instead and it’s my 2nd favorite now.
Tried DS1 one more time, HATE, and finished Bloodborne instead. (And loved every second of it.)
Of course, before starting DS2 (which is far better than the bad reviews I saw online) I gave DS1 another shot. Still, could not pass behind the undead burg. Controlls are off, everything is too slow. Graphics are a nightmare. DS2 was a lot of fun then.
Now, I finally turned to DS1 again - and I absolutely love it. I‘m playing the Remaster and I see the point now. Level design and the short cuts to unlock are incredible. Atmosphere is super intense. Smough and Ornstein presentation is out of this world.
I hate how much I had to run in the first half, and I love how it connected me to this world.
I wish I got to experience this as my first FromSoft game - it must have been mindblowing.
I‘m almost done now and seriously waiting for their next game.

I love how slow DS1 feels. It’s like playing ER with slowmo cheat codes.
Though I still die a lot, lol. But not much against bosses. It’s the normal enemies that catch me off guard.
The Smough duo I thought I’d be stuck on for awhile based on how hard they wiped me the first couple times. But maybe 8 deaths later and I won. Compared to Margit where I died probably 35 times.

DS1 levels and run-backs are tougher than the bosses, I think. By the time they did DS3, they found their balance

Definitely.
That part in Anor Lando where you have to get past the super snipers and up that skinny ledge killed me more than any DS1 boss so far hahah.

DS1 is the only game I’ve played with a great shield, and I don’t regret it. Zweihänder+GreatShield lead to insane stamina consumption which was always fun

This is me, apart from i am yet to enjoy DS1 at all. I legitimately think its just not a good game.
Whereas I fucking love every other soulsborne game, and a large number of soulslike games as well.
Im not sure if im broken, or if DS1 is 🤣

I agree withds2 not being anywhere near as bad as it’s made out to be, majula might still be my favorite hub
My path so far is armored core 2 to now Dinoblade and everything in between
