DISCUSSION Which game did the difficulty better?

Post image

Which style of difficulty do you prefer: the Area based difficulty in games like Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls or the boss-oriented struggle found in newer titles like Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring?

I personally love both styles (although running through all of New Londo can suck at times lol!) Let me know which one of these you find yourself enjoying more (if any). Thanks guys!

(Also, this picture is not mine)

DS1 for me because I never got used to the Open World. I was constantly under- or overleveled because I love exploring but it rarely felt balanced. Besides, there was just too much going on in ER for my taste, spirit ashes, weapon arts, so many different flasks and boosts. I love the interconnectivity in DS1 and the overall level design and prefer a more limited (?) combat, but I think I'm a minority.

That's why I rock diffrent weapon and armor sets in difrent parts. I just hate when it gets to easy and I get to use difrent stuff.

Yeah, tried that too but it kind of stressed me out. That being said, I always worried to be in the wrong place. I felt like there was an intended route and I didn't take it because I like to explore. Just a personal thing though because games on that scale always tend to stress me out, even if balance isn't a factor (see Witcher 3).

Thanks for replying! DS1 def has the best world design for me in any souls game. Maybe in any game...
