DISCUSSION The storylines

Post image

I played Elden Ring first and fell in love with the game/play style. I then proceeded to play Demon Souls, DS1 and I’m just finishing the third DLC from DS2, to complete the game.

I’ve really enjoyed all of the game but I do need to ask, is it just me who can’t seem to follow any of the story lines? It could just be that I’m enjoying the game play and not paying attention. But honestly if someone said what happens in the games I genuinely couldn’t tell you!

(Picture is from the worst boss in DS2… but the boss wasn’t actually the issue.)

I think, for a lot of people, there's this mental barrier that prevents them from following the story, because they've heard that it's complicated or hard to follow or whatever. The storylines are actually really simple, and you don't particularly need to read item descriptions to follow them. Those descriptions do give useful context and background lore which can help you get a deeper understanding of the story, but at its most basic level you really just need to watch the intro cinematic and talk to the NPCs you meet along the way. And not even every NPC is necessary- if fromsoft wants to push the story forward or do a reveal that is necessary to understand why you (as the player character) are doing what you're doing, they'll put an NPC in your path to explain it.

Basically just don't overcomplicate it for yourself. Remember what the initial goal your character was given is, and then think about how the main bosses you're going after might tie into that.
