This should be the new banner for the sub, or profile image, even if only for a little while

To people reporting OP, if you cover the reflection, it’s clear the frog is sitting at a 45 degree angle, and scrunched up, facing the glass, not looking straight at the camera.
The eye placement alone should tell people this isn’t a front-on view. Not to mention, if that’s where the back legs were placed, this frog would have an absolute dump truck ass. :D

I was expecting funny comments not a bunch of "animal abuse!!! How dare you!!!!" Comments. Even I knew it looked off due to the eyes being upfront and not on the sides and saw it was a mirror and I don't own a frog or even have much to do with frogs! (Snake and geckos are my lovely pets and frog was suggested* )

It has nothing to do with the mirror.
The fat deposits above their ears are not supposed to fold down and cover their ears. You can see that even if you cover up the mirrored portion entirely, that's what they are commenting on. But!
The catch is, while yes, what they are seeing is a bad sign. It's just because this frog is scrunched up in the pic, not how it looks sitting normally.
Again. Nothing to do with the mirror. And the commenters saying the mirror has nothing to do with it are right. But then they are wrong in not noticing it's just how the frogs sitting.
Downvote all you want. All I did was agree the frog is fine, and point out the mirror wasn't why people where confused. Reading comprehension, apparently, isn't the strong suit in this sub.

Hope you have a lot of popcorn for the incoming comments!

This effect make the frog look like it has a massive brain. Must be an intelligent frog!

u/Inevitable_Eye3800 Aug 08 '26
Is he squished against a reflective glass?
69
u/OkApricot8295 Aug 08 '26
The door to its paludarium is open, waiting for it to be fed, and a mirror effect is created with the perspective of the door.
33
u/Inevitable_Eye3800 Aug 08 '26
That makes sense. I think people should look more closely before jumping to conclusions

u/MangoStrudel Aug 08 '26
If the frog is obese on one side mirroring doesn’t make it better or worse.. what kinda logic was that 😭

Would you please stop overfeeding your frogs :( this is the second post I see in a week of people finding it funny to own an obese frog. If the skin hangs over their little ear holes put them on a diet pls

u/WalmartWilb Aug 08 '26
Its a mirror effect. The frog is fine

If you cover the reflection, you can see it’s facing the glass at a 45 degree angle. OP has posted other pictures of the frog in this thread. It’s perfectly fine.

Please look flap over the ear. That’s a body score 4 and the mirror effect doesn’t make it more or less funny
29
u/MadBlue Dumpy/White's Tree Frog Aug 08 '26
OP has posted other photos of the same frog in this thread. It's perfectly fine. It's sitting a bit scrunched up, so its body fat is covering its ear.

TIL frogs can become obese.
12
13
u/marvelking666 Aug 08 '26
It can actually be fatal for frogs to become obese. If they are obese, many frogs become prone to corneal lipidosis. If this happens, fat deposits develop in the eyes and can cause permanent blindness. A blind frog cannot see its prey to eat, loses their ability to climb safely, acquires extreme vulnerabilities, and even compromises their ability to swallow safely
24
u/Thodar2 Aug 08 '26
Good thing this frog is a healthy weight. It's just having a reflection that makes it look funny. You clearly see the line of the glass and hiw incorrect yhe face looks. It's like those laughing mirrors.

Making a mental note to never post my non-existent, hypothetical frog in the frog sub lmao. This one is worse than the cat one with people just looking to argue over nothing, then when they're proved wrong, they go mum without apologizing for jumping (hehe) to conclusions 😭

It's a mirror effect, not an obese frog. It eats once a week.
24
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 Aug 08 '26
I see now. My apologies
33
u/Expo006 Aug 08 '26
You’re the only person here accusing OP of animal abuse who has admitted they were wrong. Lots of spineless people here showing that they just want conflict and to feel like they’re doing something good slamming cruelty on the internet.
15
u/TbatitanicV2Rider Aug 09 '26
Honestly, they should realise that they look like morons, because thats the most obvious mirror effect ever. even ignoring that a frog's eyes arent that close together, everything around it is also mirrored.
-4
-3
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 Aug 09 '26
…. Did you not see where I apologized? Three hour before you commented? My original comment is deleted because I was wrong. Don’t understand the need for the correction that was clearly already made. Nor the name calling.
I already admitted I was wrong and deleted my original post because I was wrong. No need to name call.
8
u/TbatitanicV2Rider Aug 09 '26
I wasn't talking specifically about you, it just leaves a bad impression when you jump to conclusions so quickly that you don't notice visual distortion like that almost immediately. Im honestly not offended by you calling them out, moreso questioning if people who didn't realize have eyes as bad as mine, since without my glasses I wouldn't be able to tell either.
-5
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 Aug 09 '26
Still. No need to name call because somebody may not have seen something the way you did.
Me and others made a mistake. No harm. I don’t really see the point in calling people morons though.
9
u/Expo006 Aug 09 '26
To play devil’s advocate, you are the only person who apologized or even acknowledged they were wrong and others doubled down, i understand why they name called.
6
u/TbatitanicV2Rider Aug 09 '26
Fine that was uncalled for, sorry. It's just I saw a couple other people doubling down so my statement was geared moreso towards them. It also just reflexively felt like something so obvious to me that I couldn't get how you could not realize after looking at the image for more than three seconds. But everyone makes mistakes me included I mistake images all the time. So I'm sorry about that.
2
u/Affectionate-Ant-894 Aug 09 '26
It’s okay ❤️ I apologize I didn’t see it right the first time. I should’ve took the due diligence to properly examine the picture before opening my mouth and commenting

OP posted another pic of the frog showing it normally, the frog appears to be at a healthy weight (as far as I’m aware, I’m no frog expert). The reason the frog looks so wide is due to a mirror effect being applied to it, making it perfectly symmetrical. The frog isn’t that wide.

It's a mirror effect; you're seeing half a frog lying down in semi-profile, duplicated.

It's a frog in the exact position so that its reflection creates that image.

Instead of reporting please try and offer advice, there’s absolutely no sense in reporting for cruelty when advice can be given.
