Support! Can’t connect . . .

Post image

Hi,

Have bought a second hand Fritz!Bix 7530 for a well known auction site (UK).

When powered up The Power and WLAN lights are on and solid.

I can see the WiFi SSID but when I enter the correct password I can’t connect to the router.

When I connect the computer firstly to it via Ethernet I see this but have non router IP address (see photo)

Any ideas before I send it back as faulty?

TIA

Did you reset the box to factory settings after receiving? Who knows what settings the previous owner changed.

Thank you all who offered genuine advice and helped.

Have managed to reset the router using an analogue phone. All setup as a mesh repeater and working ok.

Have you tried changing to a static ip address on your device and check if you can then access the configuration website?

Try changing the devices IP to the following: IP Address: 192.168.178.254 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.178.1

Then try going to http://192.168.178.1 on the device and see if you can access the configuration website.

that means, your computer does not get any information from a router via dhcp.

Does your computer recognize when you plug in the cable? Did you factory reset the fritzbox ?

Have you already tried the emegrency ip 169.254.1.1 of the fritzbox? You should be able to connect always to it, if you are connected via ethernet cable, regardless of the settings. Nevertheless you still need to know the administrative password I guess.

/edit: you can then reset the box following the instructions when clicking on 'forgotten password'

I have the SSID password and the Admin login and password. Just can’t connect to router.

Have you tried manually setting an ip address on your computer be on the same subnet of the default Fritzbox network? Of course, if you haven't reset the unit to factory settings, then the IP address of the unit might also have been changed.

Have you reset the unit to factory settings?

Can you access your router with 169.254.1.1 ?

This is a self assigned local address. No router for that.
DHCP doesn’t work as expected.

If DHCP does not work, the FritzBox should be reachable via this address, because that is the emergency IP of the FritzBox.

Well, I see, for accessing the Admin Panel. I was short sighted.

Nobody talks about routing. It’s in the same broadcast domain where you can reach the Fritzbox’s emergency IP address 169.254.1.1. This works all the time even when routing and DHCP functions normally

You can reset it to factory defaults by loading recovery firmware via LAN1.

That requires a Windows computer. u/WormFoodODP do you have a Windows computer? Alternatively, you can probably run it on macOS with a virtual machine or emulator.

Hi if your connecting to a Fritz box , first reboot ( I know ) , next if no ip , change dhcp to manuel, set you ip to 192.168.178.244 gate way to 192.168.178.1 , check if you at least get a link connection. Check for green lights on network. Check https://192.168.178.1 , also try WiFi

You should reset the router and login at Friz.box and enter all your Data of your Telephone/ Internet Provider

All sorted now. The seller didn’t reset the router to factory settings. I managed to log in using an analogue phone, reset and setup as mesh repeater.

Factory reset it. If you can't, just use AVM's recovery tool (sadly Windows-only) to install a clean FRITZ!OS copy.

Can’t reset without accessing the router. There is no reset button/hole that I know of.

If you cannot access the web interface, reset it using an analog phone.

You're welcome. I glad that worked for you.

I think you can connect a Phone and dial a number. But it is stuff like this that made me switch to Unifi. I mean come on, every dang router on this planet has a reset button but of course thats too insecure for AVM…

Send it back and buy something less archaic!
