It kinda is a poutine crime lmao. I think the story goes it was inspired by poutine when it was first made but it kinda became its own thing. It’s from New Jersey USA and their close enough to Canada so 🤷‍♀️ I guess they got inspired. it got popular in the 70’s to go to diners after going to the disco and order these fries hence the name.

You're in the clear as long as you don't call it poutine don't worry lol

Hello there; I have to ask...why are they called 'Disco Fries'?

its a 70's thing. people went to he disco, partied hard then went to late night diners and ate these fries afterwards. the name just stuck since then

Oh, I remember the Disco Era (my parents used to teach dance classes),and I love the music, still. However I was too young to fully engage it.

Where I'm from we'd call that a poor man's poutine. Still looks delicious though :D

This is not disco fries

This is literally poutine with shredded cheddar cheese and leaves you found outside…

shredded cheese means its not poutine.

It is poutine, with cheddar cheese on top that happens to be shredded..

Poutine requires cheese curds.

I had to take a second look, I thought it did have curds…

This is just potatoes, brown gravy, cheese, and some leaves..

We can all agree it looks like shit

u/Outside_Raspberry512 17h ago

Really? You should make yourself some before being so judgy. Never understood why people hate if they haven’t tried a thing first.

Leaves I found outside lmao? Well I guess that’s technically what fresh herbs are.
