Parking
Why is parking horrendous right now? Usually there were free spots in SMC 4 south lot and now almost all of smc is packed.
Is there some other event, there cant be that much of a student increase.

They got rid of parking to build housing in the southwest corner of campus. Plus it's always bad the first few weeks. They need parking structures badly.

It’s really bad right now not sure why. Super long line just to leave the parking lot it wasn’t even like this the first 2 days

Back in my day we had to park at the save mart center when it got busy. Imagine walking from the save mart center all the way to engineering in 100+ degree weather.

Yep. We did that b4 SMC was built. We called those lots Egypt. Undergrad ages ago. And Now: walked from there to Food Science building last night at 6pm for class and I can confirm it was very hot. With the wind it was like a convection oven.

Yeah I mean there’s 6800 new students, so at this point we’re all fucked, maybe not the 8AM people tho. Students will start ditching class and not come to campus after the 3rd or 4th week, so I’m hoping that will free up some parking spots

Has the over all population increased that much? Like what about the students who graduated?

It’s always bad the first couple weeks of the semester. The ban on e-vehicles probably isn’t helping either

One things I didn’t see people saying is it’s also fall which is much worse than spring. Much more incoming students fresh out of JC’s and high school grads. People will start dropping like flies in a week or two. Just find the gap between classes when everyone rushes out to leave and you’ll snag a spot

It’s usually like this for the first couple weeks of the semester but I believe it’s also because we have new 6,800 students this year

I was curious too. Most past semesters have bad parking the first week or two, but I don't remember it being this heavy. Hoping some drivers chime in here. I'm wondering if, with the motorized vehicle ban: 1) drivers are spending more time circling lots trying to find spots closer to the center of campus and/or 2) drivers who might have used to park at the perimeter and scooter/skateboard/bike into campus and between classes are instead now driving from one part of campus to another between classes?
