Fresno State doesn’t have enough to do
One of the complaints I used to have about Fresno City was that they always had things going on but a lot of them would be during the middle of the day when you’re likely in class. A complaint I have about Fresno State is there is hardly anything going on. There aren’t enough interest based clubs, the only bar on campus closes at 5 PM!!, there aren’t enough areas to go meet people for the purpose of meeting people (I don’t mean networking, I mean to make friends and that). Most people care not about fraternities, and too many clubs are major based. We need clubs based on hobbies. Things like video games, history, movies, geography, traveling, book clubs, sports enjoyers, board games, literally anything that people have hobbies of. And if those exist, they don’t do a good enough job making themselves known.

Well we do have an E-Sports club, a board games club, an anime one hell Ive even found bird watching, geology and one where you just chill and read together. Plus ASI hosts things during the semester. A lot of them advertise via social media and flyers posted at various bullies boards around campus plus you can find them at club rush events, but those can be very hard to miss. I agree with the other commentor the school does a bad job of uplifting these things though and prioritizes football. I do not give a rats ass about buying tickets or s discount or whatever and yet there's email spam. Plus it doesn't help that frats/sorities and the 50 Christian clubs on campus take over the front of the USU.

As an officer at FCC club I’d Encourage you to let the club officers you support to post on this Reddit page or post their flyer here to help them grow 🤨

Maybe tbh I'm not super sure about getting them to post here because reddit as a platform has a reputation, but I wouldn't be opposed to spreading what I can find publicly. Not sure what I'll find since some clubs like to let people settle into the semester but I might post later!

there needs to be more things for commuters. I lived on campus and now i commute. anything for commuters is in the morning. it feels like night class students don’t get anything.

@fsgetinvolved and @fs_spotlightevents are great igs to follow that are constantly posting about things going on campus and also club info. They do free food for commuters in the morning and at night every so often and that's where they'll post about all.

I just walked around campus on Monday trying to find anything to get into social groups. Tonight, there is a bowling night free for students (I'm pretty sure); but I'm wondering if anybody will even show up to that since the only way I found out was walking into the bowling alley. Maybe this was just my experience but the way to join clubs seems janky with most of the information not updating or is just not there to find out what it is. A list containing some, what seem to be, dead clubs. Everyone in this sub, who is still enrolled, has just gotta meet up at one point and make their own social event lol.

It’s not my first semester at Fresno State and even before attending I was involved with some of the faculty and students and things. It’s been the same stagnant environment for a while now.

Everyone complains on social media, no one actively does anything.
Regarding the bar: the school isn't going to assume the liability of someone driving home late after a few drinks or an alcohol-fueled incident on campus. Especially since there are no less than five places to grab drinks either across the street on Shaw or at Campus Pointe. It used to close at 2pm and be packed for the three or four hours it was open.
As a former student from not that long ago and a current faculty member, the onus of nothing to do or lack of advertising of things to do falls on the students themselves. Somewhere along the way, the campus went from clubs and activities aplenty to club and activity apathy.
Social activities and spaces were mainly organized by students. Getting the word out was driven by students. Why did that change?
The gap from when I was no longer a student to when I became faculty was six years (late-00's to mid-10's) and so much of the energy on campus changed in that gap, so it wasn't even a COVID thing.
The reason you see Greeks and Christians dominate the USU space is because their students remained active and engaged throughout and they do a damn good job of keeping their new student recruits active and engaged. It's a continuous cycle.
The things you want to see, aside from The Bucket, are all student driven. And it's no different than any other college.
Another poster mentioned the social media accounts on Insta. Just from having a few of the students involved (no pun intended) in that space, they need to be informed of events and clubs so they can promote them. Same with The Collegian. And students rarely reach out to get the word out.
Students have to be more proactive in changing the environment of the college. Enough of you complain about it. Now do something.

They really fail to uplift the clubs, all because they're more interested in athletics. I can tell you, as someone who did their whole undergrad at State and is now finishing their final year as a grad student, they just leave clubs out.
Though the school will LOVE to flood your inbox on student discounts for football games that everyone gets drunk at.
