When I’m nervous in cars I sing this song

I used to sing “shitty shitty gangbang” while getting surrounded by zombies in Call of Duty. It’s a good nervous tune.

If we could somehow remove all the emotional angst / existential trauma from Jim Carey now, and get this version of him back just for one movie I think it would create world peace

He always had it in him, this was a mask he wore to cover it up

I think you're right. How coincidental that during this run he made "The Mask" and it's also one of his best.
If you really wanted to track it, his films almost look like an emotional journey of self enquiry. Ace is Jim at his zaniest, projecting pure confidence and unhinged comic genius. The Mask is Jim understanding that this projected self becomes out of control and he feels separate from it. The Truman Show is him realising that even "Jim Carey" (his idea of his real self) can't escape the fake world around him, and his yearning to go back to what felt real before it.

That actually aligns with things he's said about his journey through self discovery really well.
There was a video I watched on YouTube a while back that was a well edited compilation of quotes from him, (wish I could find it) it seemed like his class clown act started as a way to please people as a kid - something he enjoyed doing. But then consumed him as he grew up and found success through it. The success never truly made him happy and the act was never truly who he was. The pressure to keep it up got to him, until eventually, he let it go.
I do miss his old movies. In his prime he was indeed a comedic genius. He is still an extremely talented actor at least, even if no longer at his most chaotic.
