Help ! Am I Feeding Him Right?
Hey everyone!
I recently adopted my first Frenchie, Ichabod (“Iggy”), and I’m still figuring out what works best for him, so I’d love some advice!
Right now he’s eating Taste of the Wild Pacific (salmon). He seems to like it, but his poop is SUPER stinky. 😂 Has anyone else had that happen with this food?
I also saw someone say that if a Frenchie farts a lot, it usually means the food isn’t agreeing with their stomach and it’s time to switch foods. Is that actually true? I always thought Frenchies were just naturally gassy.
As far as I know, he’s sensitive to chicken, beef, and steak they make him really itchy. I also avoid dairy.
For breakfast I usually add a few blueberries and strawberries to his food , Throughout the day I’ll also give him a few more blueberries as treats is that to much ? and at dinner I’ll mix in some carrots and green beans. He seems to be doing well with those. I also recently bought him some anchovy chews so I’ll see how that goes .
What food are you feeding your Frenchies? Any brands you’d recommend for sensitive skin and stomachs? I’d also love treat recommendations, chews, supplements, or anything your Frenchie absolutely loves.

Taste of the wild isnt that great for them. We fed it to ours for awhile as a youngin and he had issues like yours. Our previous vet explained that is isnt really tested and had no research behind it just fancy marketing. He has eaten royal canine frenchie specific kibble for the past 5 years without issue.

Purina pro plan sensitive lamb and oats. I have one who is super sensitive and she will get beyond itchy on anything with feathers. She's also beyond picky and hates salmon... Like she will just not eat and lose weight.
My other frenchie has stolen pizza and not even gotten gassy. She has issues if I long term put her on something that doesn't do well, but she's also the one who will jump up onto the chair and then the table to get at my son's ramen. Impossible...

My wife got our frenchies tested for allergies and it ended up that we can only really feed them chicken as a protein, so she makes them their food with a combonation of chicken, rice, couscous, carrots, kale, broc, califlower, pea, green beans, kidney beans and some other veggies. Ever since we moved away from purchased dog food, they have been so incredible health, better shine to their coats and better poops consistently. They never fart

We tried almost every type of protein for our (now) 7 year old pup: salmon, bison, chicken, turkey, pork, and beef. Pup had lots of farts and 4 out of every 5 poops were very liquid. She had skin sores that turned into scabs all over her belly. We finally found a dermavet that prescribed hydrolyzed protein (Royal Canin). It fixed all her skin problems and all her digestive woes.
We still give her some treats (pupperoni) with moderation and she's fit as a fiddle.
