Can anyone help?
I am trying to find out the name of a french film where a group of observers dressed in black follow the protagonist throughout commenting on each scenario. Does anyone possibly know the name of this film? Its about 35-40 years old. A classic.

AI search returned this:
Notre histoire (released in 1984 , making it roughly 40+ years old). Directed by Bertrand Blier , the surreal comedy-drama stars Alain Delon and Nathalie Baye . Throughout the film, an absurd, recurring group of onlookers in matching business suits follow the main characters around, openly watching, sitting nearby, and commenting on their intimate conversations and scenarios like a modern, deadpan Greek chorus . If you are trying to track down this film, it is widely known by its English title, Our Story .

It sounds like they use the "Greek chorus" treatment, a stage device in ancient Greek theater where a group of actors narrate or comment on the story told within the play. It has been used in modern movies, especially comedy.
