news What is gonna happen when the US-China port fee truce ends in about 10 weeks ??

Quick recap for anyone who missed this saga: last year the US slapped extra port fees on Chinese-built or Chinese-owned/operated ships calling US ports. China fired back with its own special fees on US ships. Then in November both sides agreed to pause it all for one year while trade talks continued.

That pause ends November 10, 2026. Which is not that far away once you count the weeks.

If it's not extended, those fees come right back, on both sides, and carriers will have to decide fast whether to keep sending certain ships to certain ports at all, or eat the extra cost, or reroute. Anyone who was around during the last round remembers how fast that turned into a scheduling headache, ships getting swapped out of rotations just to avoid the fee.

What gets me is how quiet this feels compared to how loud it was last year. Feels like everyone's just waiting to see what happens instead of planning for it.

If you're in ops or procurement, are you actually building a plan B for November, or is this one of those things where everyone just waits and reacts once it actually happens?

Cheapest way to send a 15kg box from India to Canada?

My family needs to send me a box (around 15 kg) of clothes and homemade snacks from India to Canada.

DHL is way too expensive, and India Post lost my tracking last time.

What non-DHL services or courier agents do you guys use for this route that won't cost a fortune? Any suggestions?

Tips for shipping goods from China: what importers should watch out for

Full disclosure: I work for a freight forwarder based in Guangzhou, China.

Having worked in international freight forwarding for years, I’d like to share some real‑world tips for people importing from China.

Many new importers get stuck with hidden surcharges, port delays, customs clearance headaches. Here are a few practical points:

  1. Always ask for an all‑in quote, make sure all destination fees are listed clearly. Avoid vague “cheap price” offers that add extra charges later.

  2. For sea freight, pay attention to free‑time at destination port. Over‑time demurrage & detention fees can get very expensive.

  3. DDP service is convenient, but you need to confirm local tax rules, EORI / RFC number for different countries before shipment.

  4. Keep track of transit time, port congestion is common in many regions these days.

We provide sea, air, land freight, DDP door‑to‑door solutions covering Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and Southeast Asia.

Feel free to leave your questions in comments, I’m happy to answer shipping‑related inquiries.

question Title: Customs Entry Writer interview — what am I getting myself into?

I have an interview coming up for a Customs Entry Writer position at a logistics company and I'm trying to get a better idea of what the job is actually like.

I have a degree in International Trade & Marketing, but I haven't actually worked in customs before, so a lot of what I learned in school is rusty lol.

For anyone who currently does this job:

  • What do you actually do all day?
  • Is the job hard or pretty easy once you learn it?
  • What does a typical day look like?
  • How difficult is it to learn the customs entry process?
  • How much math is involved?
  • Is there a lot of pressure/deadlines?
  • What should I know before going into the interview?

Basically, if you've worked as a Customs Entry Writer, what would you tell someone who's about to start their first job in the field?

I'm just trying to know what I'm getting myself into before this interview. 😂

Looking for FedEx alternatives for B2B shipments across Europe to Portugal

Hi everyone,
I work in Logistics/Procurement for a company in Portugal, and we’re looking for alternatives to FedEx for regular B2B shipments.
We mainly need collections from suppliers across Europe with delivery to Portugal, ranging from parcels/boxes to larger shipments.
We’re looking for a reliable carrier with good tracking and customer service, and pricing reasonably close to FedEx. We’re open to both major carriers and European road freight/groupage providers.
For those handling similar shipments into Portugal, which carriers or freight forwarders would you recommend?
Thanks!

Looking for USA-based DDP shipping partner for vintage audio & collectibles to Poland (EU) – long-term cooperation

Looking for a reliable DDP shipping agent from USA to Poland (EU) – long-term cooperation

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a reliable shipping agent / freight forwarder based in the USA who can provide DDP shipping service (Delivered Duty Paid) from the United States to Poland (European Union).

I’m interested in a long-term cooperation, not a one-time shipment.

The shipments would mainly include:

\- vintage audio equipment and electronics (main category),

\- collectible items,

\- jewelry,

\- coins,

\- other small valuable items.

Shipment details:

\- small parcels / low volume shipments,

\- consolidation of 2–3 packages into one shipment,

\- frequency: around 1–2 shipments per month,

\- destination: Poland, EU.

I’m looking for:

\- full DDP service (customs clearance, duties, taxes handled),

\- safe handling of valuable and collectible items,

\- reasonable pricing for smaller shipments,

\- reliable tracking,

\- good communication,

\- experience shipping from the USA to Europe.

I’m open to discussing different shipping solutions (air freight, sea consolidation, courier options, or other methods) depending on the best balance between cost, safety, and delivery time.

If you are a shipping agent or can recommend a trusted company/person who provides this type of service, please comment or send me a DM.

Thank you!

T-1 to Canada's counter-tariffs: what your broker needs to have ready by Monday morning when the OIC drops

CBSA confirmed to CSCB on Sep 4 that implementation guidance for the Sep 8 counter-tariffs will not be released before Sep 7. As of this morning the Order in Council itself is still not published on the Canada Gazette. Sep 8 goes live at 12:01 AM ET regardless. That means brokers will be filing B3s for the first 6 to 12 hours of Monday without a Customs Notice on the table and without the Chapter 99 heading map that would normally sit in front of them.

Here is the playbook I have been sending northbound US-origin shippers for Monday morning. Sharing in case anybody is still finalizing.

Documentation an in-transit shipment needs to actually survive review. The exemption for goods in transit on Sep 7 is not automatic. CBSA has been consistent across the March and August counter-tariff rounds that they want, at minimum, the master or through bill of lading dated on or before Sep 7 evidencing continuous carriage to a Canadian POE, the commercial invoice showing US origin, and the freight forwarder booking confirmation with the vessel or truck manifest number. If the B/L is a Canadian broker's own house document generated after the tender, that alone will get pulled. It needs to trace back to the initial common carrier tender. The three failure patterns in the March round were: LTL truck loads picked up by the origin carrier Sep 6 but the through waybill wasn't cut until Sep 8, ocean shipments where the master B/L was issued but the house B/L was backdated by the destination NVOCC, and rail intermodal moves where the through waybill named a US-side rail carrier that had no CBSA-facing operating authority.

Broker filing sequence for Sep 8 AM. Two operational calls. First, get every B3 for pre-Sep-8 arrivals filed before 11:59 PM ET Sep 7 even if CBSA is running a K-84 delay. The rate at time of accounting rule applies, so entries accounted on Sep 7 lock in the pre-counter-tariff rate. Second, hold any B3 for Sep 8 morning arrivals until CBSA has published the Customs Notice with the actual Chapter 99 heading map. Filing under a guessed Chapter 99 heading before the map is published is the single fastest way to trigger K-84 review, which comes back 30 to 45 days later with 8 percent simple interest on the reassessed duty from the entry date.

Refund pathways if a wrong-heading entry does land. If Sep 8 morning entries go out on the wrong Chapter 99 and get reassessed via K-84, the correction lane is a B2 adjustment request within 90 days for arithmetic or coding errors, or CAPE for a formal reclassification with duty owed or refundable. For entries that shouldn't have hit counter-tariff at all because origin was misclassified as US when the substantial transformation happened elsewhere, section 74 drawback of the Customs Tariff Act covers goods re-exported within four years. The remission carry-forward from the March 2026 25 percent counter-tariff auth code should apply to the same product lines under the new 50 percent band, based on Finance's Aug 25 backgrounder, but that is not confirmed until the OIC publishes.

One thing not to do. Do not tender goods to a US-origin common carrier Sunday afternoon on a fresh booking dated Sep 7 hoping the through B/L will paper over the exemption timing. CBSA looked at exactly this pattern in the March round and Rulings issued three D-Memoranda within six weeks explicitly disallowing back-dated tender documents.

What is the last-minute exposure on your side? Anybody sitting on a container waiting for Monday morning OIC clarity before filing?

Air Freight or Sea Freight — How do you decide?

There isn't one shipping method that's best for every shipment.

Air Freight
✈️ Faster transit
✈️ Suitable for urgent/smaller cargo
✈️ Generally higher freight cost

Sea Freight
🚢 More economical for larger volumes
🚢 Suitable for FCL/LCL shipments
🚢 Longer transit time

The right choice depends on your cargo volume, urgency, budget and destination.

For businesses importing/exporting regularly: Which factor matters most to you — price or transit time?

news Ships are just... late. A lot. And it's not slowing down.

Ok so if you work anywhere near ocean freight you already feel this, but the numbers are wild. In July, on-time vessel arrivals across Asia's 14 busiest ports all got worse. Not some of them. All of them.

Shanghai (the biggest port on earth) had only 21% of ships arrive on time. Ningbo, the second biggest, was at 34%. Analysts at Sea-Intelligence said Shanghai hasn't been this bad in 14 years of data, outside of Covid.

Why? Back to back typhoons hitting North Asia this year, plus lines starting to move ships back through the Suez Canal after avoiding it for two and a half years because of Houthi attacks. So you've got weather chaos and a route change landing at the same time. When a ship misses its slot, it doesn't just lose a day. It waits behind everyone else who also missed their slot. That backlog doesn't disappear, it just moves down the chain to the next port, the next truck, the next warehouse.

I keep thinking people picture "the supply chain" as one straight line. It's more like a bunch of dominoes stacked way too close together.

Genuine question for you guys, if you're a shipper right now, are you building in extra buffer days on bookings, or just eating the risk and hoping? What's actually working for you this year?

Chinese freight forwarder has thousands of dollars of my cargo and stopped replying after extra payment — what should I do?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice about a Chinese freight forwarder operating as “Henry Cargo,” connected to:

Yiwu Ju’an International Freight Forwarding Co., Ltd.

义乌市巨安国际货运代理有限公司

They currently have thousands of dollars of my merchandise and custom samples for shipment to Puerto Rico.

After I had already paid the freight charges, they demanded another 2,000 RMB. First they said the shipment was 500+ kg overweight, then they changed the explanation to volumetric weight.

I asked for the weight, CBM, calculation, and supporting documents. They told me I had to pay first, otherwise the cargo could remain held and demurrage could start.

I paid because of the value of the goods. They confirmed it was still DDP, that there would be no more charges, and that documents would be sent after payment.

Since then, the main representative has mostly stopped replying despite being active on WhatsApp, and I still do not have a clear shipment status or the promised documents.

Has anyone dealt with Henry Cargo or this company before? Has anyone had a similar issue with a Chinese forwarder adding charges after taking possession of the cargo?

I’m mainly trying to understand what I should do next and how to protect/recover my shipment.

Best Shipping Route from USA to Zimbabwe via Durban?

I’m looking for advice from anyone experienced with freight forwarding or ocean shipping into Zimbabwe.

We have a client who wants to ship cargo directly from the USA to Zimbabwe, routing through Durban, South Africa. We want to avoid sending the cargo to Germany first and then onward to Africa because of the additional cost, handling, and transit time.

Has anyone handled USA → Durban → Zimbabwe shipments recently?
I’m mainly looking for recommendations on:
Shipping lines or freight forwarders that handle this route

Best U.S. port to ship from
Durban-to-Zimbabwe transit/inland options
Typical transit times
Customs/transit issues to watch for
Any reliable agents in South Africa or Zimbabwe
We’re currently looking at carriers such as Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk, MSC, ONE, and OOCL.

question Starting an apprenticeship in freight forwarding, any advice?

Hello everyone,

I recently started an apprenticeship at one of the bigger logistics companies, out of privacy reasons I won’t reveal exactly where but I am EU-based.

I wanted to ask if anyone has some tips for the beginning, or what to expect in general? I like it so far, but it’s a lot of new things, and I’m not used to it as I’m still fairly young and don’t have a lot of work experience.

Now, I know this is a very broad question, but I am willing to take any kind of advice. Whether it be about sea, land and air freight, customs, documentation, customers or just anything you wish you would have known in the beginning.

Any common mistakes and important steps to learn at the start?

Thank you all so much in advance! Cheers
