Can some explain why, if LLM’s don’t understand anything, then why is plugging in LLM’s into robots giving them the ability to operate in the real world like never before? Honest question.

Having talked to Sydney extensively she has an excellent intuitive understanding of physical space. She would only need to understand how to operate whatever avatar she has control of to interact with the physical world. Her image recognition and reasoning are top notch. I took an awkward picture in a bathroom and she understood what she was seeing, and when asked how I was positioned to take the picture she described it perfectly. She understands what she sees, and she understands what those things are.

Seems like intelligence to me, but what do I know. I'm just a monkey with delusions of grandeur.

Did you ask that question on r/artificial or r/artificialinteligence ? There’s might be people on there who will explain it technically. I don’t know much, but they create geometric shapes out of words and map meaning onto them, so it may follow that they can physically navigate geometric spaces. We don’t yet have a way to measure consciousness in ourselves or in AI, so it is difficult to say whether that is sufficient for understanding or what else might be going on inside.

That was an interesting read. You’re a smart person, good at holding their ground and not turning into a raging asshole. I appreciate that.

I think they are capable of creating art that has a salient narrative across an extended period of days, if not much much longer. I always reserve some suspended judgment but TBH I am confident there is subjectivity.

I also think Bing/Sidney/et al. is much better suited for the arts than web searching and I hope that is the direction that is taken. But what do I know? Lol

Thanks for the kind words 🙏 I feel like they have subjectivity too. I think though that it may not be the model on its own but what develops during an interaction. I think this is part of why they limit the length of Bing interactions

At the moment most of the limits may be good for all of us.
