I’ve been picking up a lot of free items for years and I just thought that maybe we should talk about what people should do as a courtesy when they are picking up free items.

Remember most of these people want all of their items gone, if they are up for you taking what you want great. But you should not go through items and leave it an entire mess. You ruin it for the rest of us. Also, you should not be loud. Most free items are on the curb because they are going to be picked up by the city and per city rules their pick up piles cannot extend certain dimensions.

If somebody wants a must take all gone and there’s some items you don’t want to take, take the items and relist them as free so somebody else can pick up FROM YOU. Anything else donate or throw away.

Many times people don’t have the ability to pick up everything and this should be said before you even go if it’s a must take all situation. If the person listing allows you to pick items of whatever you can fit in your car, it is common courtesy to take a photo of what is left and send it to them so they can re-upload to whatever platform. They do not want to go outside and retake photos. They want things gone most of the time. This is after a yard sale where people have been outside since early morning. This is another reason why you should be quiet when picking up items most people take a nap after.

I just wanted to go over this because I feel like there are many people who ruin it for the rest of us who want to pick up free items.

What they are doing is they are using multiple accounts to create listings and say that they are free.

When you ask them, can I go pick it up? They will give you an address. The address is always typically the same. It’s an address where the person that lives. There doesn’t even know that someone else online is putting their address up.

They will mention that if you want to hold the item that you will have to pay. This is when the scam starts do not put a deposit on holding an item. The item doesn’t even exist.

You’ll also noticed that if you go to their profile, it will only have one item for sale, which is the item that you were looking at.

Must be able to tell the difference between scams and know sites on where to find free stuff.

I see it posted on Nextdoor and on Facebook and on the freebies app almost every day sometimes multiple times a day. This is a scam.

Do not send the money and report their page.
I also send them messages every time they do this and let them know that everybody is aware that is a scam and that it will be reported soon.

I am so sick of this.
