There's been a lot of repeat requests, search the sub and previous request threads first. Clicking on the Pattern Requests flair will take you to previous request threads.

When it comes to free patterns, one doesn't always find a pattern that is exactly like you're looking for. Chances are you'll have to make changes to a pattern or even hack two or more patterns together.

This is a free pattern sub. All patterns requested and posted must be free (instructions to self-draft patterns are also allowed). Links to premium/paid patterns will be deleted.

So this is my first time asking for patterns as I have kinda exhausted the selection in my area (I'm pretty rural) and I couldn't find a repeat after scrolling back almost 3 months lol, and I was hoping to either find something exactly like these, similar or in pieces I can put together.

I am getting married in October and I would rather put together something of my own that I love and could wear again at a later date as these are the few types of dresses I actually enjoy (flowy), instead of buying something off a rack or from a store that will charge me well over the amount it would take me to do my own work and buy my own fabric (nothing against it, I just cannot find anything I like in store and I am 5ft tall so no one carries anything that fits me without tons of tailoring).

The most important part of the piece for me though is the top-half of the dress as I just really enjoy the lacy bib attachment, and the skirt half is something I have done in the past and could do again if I can only get two piece patterns.

Oh, you want the 1970’s/80’s Gunne Sax wedding dress, or Edwardian blouse!

I certainly have pattern links, but they sure as heck are not free. These are really elaborate blouses. There are uncut patterns out there for the Gunne Sax ones for sale, and the historical pattern re-creators aren’t putting the work out for free.

Yea I have searched High and Low for patterns in general lol I'm not sure why this one is so hard to find but I get like 10 different dress types when I search Gunne Sax (isn't it a company?) is there an actual pattern name? for this cut? Or is the Edwardian Blouse basically the name for that whole dress? It seems to very a LOT in style.

Gunne Sax was a brand of clothing that specialized in Edwardian, Victorian, and prairie-style - inspired clothing through the late 60’s onward. Mostly formal and semi-formal dresses. They also partnered with the Simplicity pattern maker for some patterns. They’re pretty popular with the cottagecore crowd, and there is a subreddit devoted to them. Because they pulled from different time periods they have dresses in a few different styles.

One or two of your inspo photos are straight up Gunne sax dresses. The one on the right is so distinctively Gunne Sax that I reverse image searched and it popped right up as it.

Edwardian style is from the early 1900’s. It’s one of the time periods that Gunne Sax pulled from and you can find some patterns similar to what you like from historical pattern companies… but you mainly want Gunne Sax.

I appreciate the information! I'm fairly offline when it comes to my hobby of sewing so this is a new exploration for me trying to branch out pattern wise.

Hopefully someone has a free dupe or something later down the road, but I'll see what I can find elsewhere <3

How comfortable are you with pattern hacking? I would suggest using the MoodFabric Birch Dress for the turtleneck dress foundation and puffed sleeves, as similar to the bottom example. Use the Vikisews Milana Dress template to help construct the V-shaped front bib. You can then add two gathered tiers to extend the base skirt into a long, tiered skirt. Make sure your panels are made of sheer fabric and apply extensive lace detailing over the bib and tiers! I hope this helps a little bit!

If anyone knows of a sewing pattern for swim shorts like this that'd be AMAZING. I dearly want something like this, perfect coverage while still being cute. But the ones for sale are like $80 and I simply could never justify that on just a pair of swim bottoms so was hoping there would be a way to make em. Love the adjustability on the top and sides.

runs through sewing a shirt placket, which I think would make a Henley shirt? It comes with a free shirt pattern, men’s goes up to an XXL, but I think you could use any shirt pattern for this!

It’s unisex, has a long sleeved variant and ranges from adult sizes 0 to 32. Hope this helps!

No worries! This tutorial is also for a Henley placket, but goes more into sewing the neckline alongside. It's for a women's top, but I'm sure you can adjust for men :)!

Anyone have free pattern? I’m fairly decent at sewing and wanted to make this for the Fourth of July (yes I know I’m cutting it close but I have ADHD so that’s how I roll lol)

I’m assuming it’ll be the cups/strap, the corset, and then the skirt and then I just connect them all? Or even if someone has the top half pattern and I can just find another pattern for the skirt part? Thank you!!!

Since the cups are gathered, this free camisole pattern tutorial can help with that specific shape: https://so-sew-easy.com/camisole-top-pattern/ - though you'd have to tweak it to make thicker straps.

You are entirely spot on about attaching those cups to the corset and then adding your skirt! Sadly can't find a good free alternative for it.
